According to videogamer, more DLCs are incoming, and the gap between ME2 and 3 will be told through said DLCs:

I seem to recall hearing similar things about the DLCs that were intended for ME1, but they do seem a bit more serious this time.

Interesting.

Does this mean, then, that if you don't invest in the DLCs - you won't know what happened in between the games you're paying for?

I have to give Bioware credit, they are masters at milking gamers for money.

@DArtagnan
Most DLCs are 1-2 hours of length, so there is a limit as to how much they're going to be able to squeeze in, but I suppose missing out on certain parts might be possible.

@JDR
I haven't actually tried the most recent DLCs, so I don't know if they're worth the money. If it is, then I have no problems with it - I happily pay subscriptions for MMOs, but in return I expect a steady flow of content and other upgrades.
