There a preview up for this game at the site Dedicated to Gamers. (http://www.dedicatedtogamers.co.uk/#/preview-fallout-new-vegas/4542984249) Here's a little blurp about the game's hardcore mode:
One major addition to the Fallout 3 template comes in the form of New Vegas' “Hardcore Mode” which can be toggled on and off from the menus at any time by the player and will deliver a more intense and sense of realism than the standard
mode of play. Only the brave will survive, since Hardcore Mode tasks players to keep hydrated and remain free from starvation in the perilous desert plains, with ammunition also having weight, healing having a more delayed effect, and crippled limbs only available to be healed if your the medicine skill is of a high enough level or medical equipment is available to you.
More information. (http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/newsbit?newsbit=15485)

Obsidian's latest game, Alpha Protocol, was vastly underwhelming- a conglomeration of dodgy shooting mechanics, poor dialogue and shallow characters.

Did they play the same Alpha Protocol I did? Meanwhile praising Bethesda & Fallout 3 at every possible chance. Garbage in, garbage out I guess.

In hardcore mode ammo has weight and skill is required to heal crippling wounds. Wow, how dumbed down is normal mode?
