I got asked in another thread where my avatar came from. When I replied I made it myself, I was asked if I had more artwork. So I thought I'd start a seperate thread to show of my limited talent ;)

Anyway, these are all family/work friendly:

Sorcha Ravenlock
January 17th, 2007, 17:48
So many kind replies  thank you all :)

Corwin, I haven't published anything or uploaded anything to artsites, I am just not confident enough to do that.
I did submit 'Night Shift' in a competition at Daz Studio recently, the theme was 'Manly Men' :)

Mike: I think 'Night Shift' is not so much how I feel after a day, but what I wish for. ;) Actually, my husband did use to do the midnight bottle, so I could sleep from 11 pm to 5 am when our little one was small :D

Myrthos: no i don't have any tower props. All the props, figures, outfits, backdrops, hairstyles and so on are bought seperately, I am still building up my collection. :)

Very, very, VERY good. You should do book covers. Especially your 'family unfriendly' pics (which aren't, by the way :) ) ... a little more work unsafe yet and they would make great covers for Ellora's Cave publications. Some of their covers are just plain horrible (my sister-in-law owns a huge and constantly expanding collection of Furry romantica books) while your pics are fantastic (downloading while I type)!
What do you use, Maya or dear old Poser with some really good models?

Sorcha Ravenlock
January 18th, 2007, 14:02
Oh, thank you all

I use Daz Studio, which is free to download from their site:
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/studio/58d91993472496de9333841f45260c8e/?
(it comes with some free stuff included)

They have some figures up for free too, like Aiko, which is the one I use (although I do have the morphpack, which you do have to buy) :
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=2866&cat=147

The program is simple to use, and most people who tried it were able to create a decent image with some freebies and a good tutorial, like the one that you can download together with the daz Studio program.

If people are intrested, I can post some links to sites with free stuff. :)
(mind that most freebies are free to use in Poser and Daz, but that that does not mean you have the right to port the meshes or textures for use in other programs or to use them for mods for games like the Sims and Oblivion ;) )

I'm still wondering how she got a pic of me! (Hiro)

Besides the snazzy new wallpapers, thanks for the daz info and link Sorcha, you have inspired me to get into this and see what I can do. I'm taking web design and actually taking a keyboarding class too (i type very fast, just very unorganized) this semester, but Im definitely going graphics-oriented classes next couple semesters. Just like typing, I know enough to at least produce passable results, but I'd like to get formal training and be able to crank out some real quality results.

nice.

I havent done anything worth posting. Pretty much just been figuring out the program, reading up on it, scanning the forums, and doing some pretty creepy things with the Victoria model.

Was amazed at all the free stuff there is for download. In the end, I dont think that I'll be satisfied with this type of thing unless I can make my own textures and stuff. From a business perspective, there is some coin to be made there if youre good, which I'm not. Not at that anyway. I do plan to be good in the future tho ='.'=

Samhain, nice to hear you are playing around with it ;) I haven't gotten into texturing for the stuff myself yet, my hubbie has though:

I can't tweak the shirt at all unfortunately, it just came as is. I would have loved to open the shirt a bit to show some well-toned man-meat ;)

Don't feel daunted by my work, it is nothing compared to that of more experienced artists, even though I've come a long way from my first render :)

No, it was a little private forum, hosted by a friend. I knew he had problems with the forum-provider, but now the forum has dissapeared completely.

I have no idea if he has a backup of the forum posts, and if and when he will put up a new forum, I haven't been able to reach him yet.

No problem!! yes i was interested in a list of freebies. (u said u had links and stuff) then i didn't understant that thing with 'can't use anywhere' Thanks

Okay, I see :) I've put up some links earlier on, have a look at those to start with ;)

As for not being allowed to use the meshes and textures in other places:

Basically, most artists put up freebies either to get you to buy their other work, or to create a port-folio in the hope to move on to a job in 3D art.

I used to mod for Morrowind, and it happened there that people started taking things from Daz artists and converting it into the Morrowind engine, things like hairstyles, but I've also seen whole buildings. They did this without asking permission from the original artist, sometimes even claiming this as their own work. Doing this with free stuff is immoral, doing it with the actual buyable items is illegal, and Daz will take action in that case.

I just put that up as a disclaimer so people know they can use this stuff freely in Daz Sudio or in poser (and you can do with your renders what you want, even sell them) but you are not allowed to redistribute the actual 3D content, as is or converted for a particular game engine.

Your family is very talented :). My mother-in-law did some silk painting stuff a few years ago, that's about it... all others are about as untalented as they come, with the exception of sonny.
The only skinning I've ever done was for the original Team Fortress back in '96 or '97... clan skins. The color palette was quite limited, and I wanted my trademark character class (= the Engineer) to have bright red hair, so I used the brightest reds available. Well, those happened to be the lava colors, so the engineer skin ended up with glow-in-the-dark hair.
Not really a problem then because my reflexes were still good...

NWN2 slight spoiler!!!!

I knew that Casavir was the only romanceable NPC, but that Bishop originally was ment to be romancable as well, some of his dialoge hints at that. Anyway, yesterday I read somewhere that there was supposed to have been a third.... Sand.
Trying to (unsuccesfully) image any romantic scenario involving Sand, the following was the best I could do:

What? You ment without my Staff of Magi? (http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/1851/wizardstaff2vr0.jpg)

I'd say you've captured his arrogance very well--not to mention that "electric" attraction.:)

'Nother NWN2 spoiler:

I don't know if I'd want Bishop to be romancable--the only thing I've heard from him was "If I wanted a wench I'd go to a brothel" or words to that effect. If I'd been playing a fighter, I would have had to force attack. ;)

Okay off-topic NWN2 spoiler:

One of my favorite things to do at the end of NWN2 was to kit out Bishop in a variety of ways and then kill him. I was a lawful good cleric and it was just enormous fun slaying Bishop, Neeshka, and Qara at the end of the game. Clerics had to be the munchkin class in NWN2 :D

The head seems a little small, particularly given his mammoth hands. Also, the biceps and triceps are turned wrong--they are postioned for an arm facing forward, not turned out from the body.

Not that I could do any better, mind you, but you've set a pretty high standard of quality with your previous work.

Most of that is due to the figure, he isn't supposed to be the most realistic man:
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=1681
His biceps turn wrong the moment I move his arm, i haven't found a fix for that yet. I believe they are working on a newer version of all the Daz people, giving them higher poly meshes, better bending limbs and larger textures.

Anyway, here he is in comparison to David, the figure I normally use for men. Neither of them have any work done to them, exept for a texture on them:

Not much you could do with that, is there? The proportions of the model are wrong to start with (the hands are longer than the forearms; the big head is only marginally larger than the little one--female modeller making a statement perhaps? ;) ), so you don't have a chance. Regardless of model nitpicking, your artistic sense was excellent as always. The "feel" of your compositions is consistently top-shelf.

hehe, he works great for the 'big but not very smart-guy' renders though :D

Don't worry about giving constructive critisism, if I can do anything about it I will, if anything I'll learn from it. ;) But I'm limited to the tools I have, hence my explanation.
I am glad to hear people like my work, regardless of the flaws :)

Why do big chests and small brains always seem to go together, for both genders!! :)

it's not from a game. The walls are from a French Cottage, the sunset is literally a photo of a sunset and the crates are a Daz Studio freebie :) The crates do always remind me a bit of DOOM though...

The yellow and black hatching on the thingy he's leaning on and the number 13 on the crate next to him remind me of Fallout. I noticed it before in your picture of the couple--"The Rescue"? I think. Anyway, Restricted Area used that look too--considering the derivative nature (and that's being nice!) of that game, I wouldn't be surprized if they used it out of the package, as it were, in their level design.

Nice stuff, regardless.

You mentioned this the other day and all I can say is WOW! I have no artistic ability and am just soooo impressed.

Thank you

I'm not really that artistic myself, doing these renders is as far as my talents go. When it comes to drawing I've never gotten further then stick-figures, my potterry usually falls apart when someone looks at it, and my singing is best left for the shower

I've seen that look on a man's face while holding a baby before ;)

I don't know if he's quite grumpy enough for Daeghun, tho. :)

Hey, that's like my kids! My daughter drew a picture for the other day with two dragons and a shield with dragons on it. She knows me so well:biggrin:

That's a really good picture. I'll have to print it to show my kids:)

reminds me of stephen baldwin. nice work Sorcha. like everyone has said and i repeat your talent not only has a uniqueness to it, it is streaked with professionalism.

*edit* whoops that was in response to the bishop one on page 3.

if there were others who had the level of your talent in other game development areas the watch could create quite a game!

Thanks to all the positive encouragement I've received both here and on the few other sites where I post, I've bitten the bullet and created a DevianceART account. I'll be putting most of my art up there, for any who are interested, this is my gallery:
