View Full Version : Evil's Doom playthrough on youtube

Just posted another playthrough on youtube. This time it's the very rare, unknown and unpublished Evil's Doom made exclusively for the Amiga platform.

Evil's Doom was developed by Olympia with employees from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Some of it's developers were also working for Croteam (Serious Sam). Evil's Doom reached beta stage back in 96 but was blown off by the publisher thanks to too many bugs. The game ended up unfinished and was never released. Eventually the beta itself started to float around. 2010 fans took up the game, polished it's code and released a bugfixed edition that fixes the game so it can at least be played from start to end.

The game is similar to Dungeon Master or Eye of the Beholder, with an "overground" interface between underground dungeons. The story is quite ambitious but sometimes silly and often breaks the fourth wall. The game looks really good if one can get past that most of it is made in greyscales only.

Even if watching someone who can barely speak english fumble through an ancient bugfest doesn't intrigue you, others might find this obscure and almost esoteric title interesting enough to watch, at least to grasp what kind of game it is.

Thanks for the playthrough!

Good to see you were able to beat the game. I remember you asking about the game a while back in the EAB forum.

Did you use ModePro to sort out the graphical issues?

Yes, I had to use ModePro. I tried the Kickstart 3.0 option but it didn't work. Also it was a great chance that the introscene to new areas got corrupted forcing me to retake many shots. I gave up on trying to correct the lines that cover the screen. You can do it, but only by enabling options that corrupts other parts of the game.

I wish someone would find and pick up the remains of Mechlords and release it :)

I often think the same about Armalion. ;)

Using ModePro made a world of difference. I tried playing this RPG a few times a while back but gave up due to the graphical glitches (even with Kickstart 3.0). Your playthrough has inspired me to get into the RPG again using ModePro.

Btw…I'm Zandig over at EAB

I found your nick to be a bit funny. I thought I had just defeated Dagar's ghost :D

Yeah getting the game to run properly was definitely a challenge. In fact, I held off the playthrough a couple of WinUAE releases in hope it would get better. I was always stuck in the middle, either you get those black lines, or you get corrupted 3d view in dungeons.

Thanks man, then you have 3 videos to go until you get to see the first dungeon on the game. :) First recording I did I just rushed through the Island to do everything I needed and was done in 20 minutes, but you had no time to read what anyone said. After reconsideration I redid it and made sure to let the game take it's time to print the text on screen, but then it took an hour. I am more satisfied with the 2nd version even if there are so many NPC's I do not recruit (no space in party).

I must really suck at youtube, as I find it incredibly hard to figure out how to conveniently queue stuff for extended viewing.

The playlist feature opens a greyish toolbar at the bottom of the webpage. I added a direct link to the playlist in the description of every video.
