Spazz Maticus
http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/660/spazzmaticus.png

Any reason is a legitimate one, I just want to know what bit-part characters caught your attention and why :) . Mine is Spazz Maticus "a young King on a mad quest to rule the world", from Heroes of Might and Magic IV: Winds of War. I've always found the Winds of War introduction scene to be hilarious, especially when it introduces coked-up Spazz.

Hmmmm… do the chars really have to be obscure? I can't think of any who are - if they are too obscure I probably didn't notice them…

But actually there are some none-protagonists I rather like:

- Kitsune from the SNES Shadowrun RPG. She was a cute companion, and I liked her ears :). Link (http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/snes/shadowrun/characters.shtml)
- Itius Hayn from Oblivion. Mr. Straight Edge. I mean, come on, he may not be too bright like the report says, but he's the only cop in town who dares to arrest a colleague. And I absolutely love how he tells people about the piss stench in jail. Link (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Itius_Hayn)
- Jörg Walther from Rainbow Six. Okay, so RS is not a role-playing game, but that guy probably is the only game character hailing from my home town. Link (http://www.oocities.org/rs_revolution/roster/walther.html)
- Grunty from JA2. Not an RPG, either, but I absolutely loved that guy, his tie and his speech after killing the alien queen (in Sci-Fi mode). Link - entry No. 14 (http://www.ja2.de/wf/en/merchants.html)

- I also harbor sweet memories of several bad-tempered CRPG folks because they unfortunately remind me of, erm, RL Jaz: Geron/Jeron and Jakel of LoL, for example, or half the cast of Gothic.

No, I suppose not. Who am I to deprive you from posting about whatever character pleases you? Do as you will. Those are definitely some interesting choices you've got there, by the way. Thanks for the links!

Right now from the top of head: Deekin from NWN Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark. I just love that stupid little Goblin bard. Link (http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Deekin_Scalesinger)

Mud of Gothic 1

That Sharga from Stonekeep who wanted to be a kind of companion (if I remember correctly)

I hate using Oblivion for an example of something awesome but honestly the first character that jumped into my mind was the necrophiliac alchemist in Skingrad.

Oh, what was the name of that green midget goblin-type guy in Stonekeep? Despite not finishing the game, I still remember that guy vividly.

Skrag (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSw885bM5F4) perhaps? Or did you mean Wahooka (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvwqWx-93j0&feature=related)?

Good candidate Alrik, Mud is definitely a perfect example!

Besides Mud, there are several I want to point out:
- Murray the talking skull, Monkey Island series. Funny guy.. uh.. skull. Thing. Monkey Island may not be an RPG, but Murray is worth a mention anyway.
- Lily Bowen, the crazy Nightkin NPC in Fallout: New Vegas. As crazy as it gets.
- Biff the Understudy, Baldur's Gate series. Pops up to do vital dialogue if an error occurs. Also has a minor role in BG2 in addition to that.
- Half of Planescape: Torment, from the guy without a head to the woman who can't go anywhere because she's afraid of everything (actually, she's afraid of portals, but everything in Sigil can be a portal).

I also found that character to be highly interesting, exploring his home (and a few others throughout Oblivion) is a great touch

Mud of Gothic 1

Plus one. And of course "In Extremo" the band that you could watch give a performance in the german version of the game.

Oh, two more somewhat obscure NPCs, this time from LoL 3:
- CABAL. I mean, come on, I love multiverses… especially when designed by one of my favorite dev teams of old. And meeting an old C&C enemy in the Lands was just… hah, great :). Besides, it gave the whole 'Cabal Warrior' thing of LoL 1 a new meaning. Link (http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Computer_Assisted_Biologically_Augmented_Lifeform)
- Solan. Meeting a Cabal Warrior who wasn't after your hide was a fine event IMO. Especially if that guy looked and talked like a NOD trooper. Sorry, no link, but as a habitual NOD player I really enjoyed the nod to C&C ^^.

Yeah, I know I'm the only person who loved LoL 3, but hey, it stirred so many good memories.

EDIT
Hah, yeah. That one. Played a role in the Dark Brotherhood campaign IIRC.
I haunted Anvil for quite some time, especially after Hieronymus Lex had been transferred to that place. Call me a stalker, but I visited him while he was asleep.

Fenrus (http://questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Fenrus): The rat familiar to Erasmus from the Quest for Glory series (you knew it had to be a rat right? ;)) Master and familiar played off of each other perfectly.

Erasmus (http://questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Erasmus): Gandalf if he was senile.
Ali Fakir: (youtube of Ali (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd9nQ0x09Qw)) The saurus selling Groucho Marx.

The best obscure RPG character has to be Katrina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Quest_for_Glory_characters#Katrina): One of the few - if not the only - villain in a game I wanted to save. She had motivation behind what she did and while it was the exact opposite of what you were trying to accomplish you could understand why this character behaved the way she did.

Now that I think about it I have to throw the whole cast of Quest for Glory 4 (http://www.fief.org/kathleen/qg4/QuestForGlory4.html)into this post. Everyone of them was memorable in one way or another.

The Domovoi reminds me a little of Dobby from Harry Potter. Maybe J.K. Rawling got her inspiration for the house elves from Slavic folklore.

I know he's not an obscure player, and I'm sure it's probably breaking the rules of the thread, but Minsc has to be one of the most brilliantly hilarious characters ever written for a game. I must have listened to his conversation with the pirate just before being committed to Spellhold a hundred times.

How about the talking sword in BG2? (Can't remember its name). It talks, so I guess that makes it a character! I laughed every time I'm patiently waiting for something to happen or trying to figure something out and all of the sudden out of my speakers comes "boooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriii iiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggg!"

or "I want to kill something! Can I please! Please!"

I also like the guy that was locked in Lord British's dungeon (can't remember if it was U7 or U9) that claimed he was both Shamino and Lord British.

You guys cannot be serious about having Mud from Gothic 1 as your favorite obscure RPG character! You actually liked Mud?! o_o That does not compute. He is annoying as hell and the joke aspect of him wears off really fast (IMO). I just lead him outside the camp and killed him. Good riddance!

My current, most recent, favorite (semi-)obscure NPC is No-Bark Noonan from Fallout -New Vegas. Made me genuinely laugh out loud a few times.

I never said I LIKED Mud.

It is just so that he just stays in my memory.

Perhaps Forever.

BECAUSE of how he is the way he is.

He was a good one. So was the radio coverage of him a bit later.

I'll throw Bellegar (http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/Zloth/image/4d45d9aa378501f005a30200/) out there from Divinity 2. He was more of a major character in the expansion but he was pretty minor in the original game.

For major characters, Minsc and HK-47 rule the RPG NPC favorites. (No way would I buy the "exiled prince" DLC for DA2 but if it were a Minsc DLC....)

Roi Danton

HK-47 was just awesome. As was Shale from DA:O (even though they were kinda similar). There is also that strange Angle from NWN2 MOTB. But they aren't really obscure.

Btw, the bloody Pirate from Gothic 2 NotR was awesome (the boss, you meet him right at the farm at the beginning on your way to the city).

He's only part of a sidequest involving some stone circles if I recall correctly. The reward is quite nice though.

What a crazy mage!
