View Full Version : What's in your backlog?

In a number of recent posts I have seen people talk about how large their backlog of games has become, So I thought this might make an interesting topic. How many games do you have in your backlog, and what is in it? You can also include RPG games you have definitley scheduled to replay or old games that are on your must-buy list.
My own backlog is hopelessly, hopelessly large. As people here might already know, I like steam, like to finish games, and due to many real-life obligations I have become a very slow gamer. A typical RPG may easily keep me busy for a quarter to half a year. That combination has resulted in a rather large backlog on steam from various sales atm:
- DA:O Awakenings, (I recently finished DA:O itself)
- Mass Effect 2
- Titan quest (+expansion) (played for about 1 hour)
- King Arthur (played for part of tutorial)
- Alpha Protocol
- NWN2 Platinum edition (with Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir)
Non-RPG games:
- Portal
- HL2 - Episode 2
- Total War: Rome
Non-steam games:
- Drakensang (Box)
- Divine Divinity
- Avadon
Games I'd still like to finish one day:
- Oblivion: Nehrim TC (probably at about 15%)
- Currently Playing: Witcher 2 (still Act I)
- Vampire: Redemption (played for 5 hours)
- Gothic 3 (CP) - probably at ca. 50%
- Fallout 3 (about 80% of MQ)
- Stalker (about 10%)
- System Shock 2 (ca. 30%)
- Eschalon ( ca. 50%)
- and some iPhone RPG's
Must-play old games:
- Arcanum
- Vampire: Bloodlines
- Fallout 2
- Planescape: Torment
Games I'd like to replay one day, but probably never will:
- Morrwind (with lots of mods)
- Oblivion (with lots of mods)
- Witcher 1
Sigh, its hopeles… I need to retire or something…

I begun a list a few years back in which I keep track of games to play. I usually add scores from gamerankings to judge whether or not a game is worth my time and I tend to go back to reviews from gamespot and IGN on youtube before deciding.
Some games are purchased and in my pile. Some I grab when I decide to play them. I rarely if ever replay games I already beaten. I often engage in one game at a time. There is an exception to this rule; actiongames. Even the best FPS's cant keep me entertained for more than a level or two, but open-world RPG's usually make me forget everything and suddenly realise it's well past midnight. Due to this I might end up to play a level-a-day of an actiongame, sometimes playing 2-3 actiongames at the same time, each a level-a-day.
Sometimes I just delete entries after deciding not to play them afterall. When I am too loaded, I tend to delete entries that got a poor score, but with a certain bias. A generic actiongame of 70% is subject for deletion, a RPG of 60% might stay on the list (and even lower in some cases, such as Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods). I also rely on opinions on RPGWatch.
Alpha Protocol (73.43%)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (87.65%)
Arcania: Gothic 4 (63.86%)
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (88.40%)
Batman Arkham Asylum (92.88%)
Borderlands (1.3 + 3 DLC) (81.40%) DLC1 (81.00%) DLC2 (52.67%) DLC3 (85.60%)
Bulletstorm (81.79%)
Call of Duty: Black Ops (79.14%)
Crysis 2 (86.08%)
Deathspank (78.50%)
Divinity II: Ego Draconis (1.3) (71.09%) 60h + Flames of Vengeance
Dragon Age 2 (78.92%)
Drakensang: The Dark Eye (73.21%) 40-50h + The River of Time
Duke Nukem Forever (45.40%)
Dungeon Siege 3 (79.80%)
Fable 3 (72.93%)
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (82.50%)
Final Fantasy XIII (85.17%)

List can be made a lot longer… I tend to buy boxed copies of games that are cheap "for rainy days". Most games that I own but have not got around to play, that can be found on the list, have been in the 2-5€ region, some even cheaper.

My 'main' backlog (IE games I WILL play at some point) is:
Arcanum
Ps:T
Siege of Avalon
Ultima 6: Project (about 3/4 through, but haven't loaded it up since October)
NWN2: MotB (about 1/2 through, but haven't played since before U6: p)
NWN2: MoW (same as MotB)
NWN2: SoZ (Installed, never played)
KOTOR
Games I have but might never play
MM I-VI
Ultima VIII
Games I want to play at some point:
DAO
The Witcher
Dungeon Siege II
Avadon (and other of Spiderwebs games)
I also have a few that I've played before, but having been playing again on and off:
Ultima VI
Ultima VII
Ultima Savage Empire
Ultima Martian Dreams
I'm basically writing off 2011 for games. We bought a condo in October last year, and pretty much ever second of free time has been dedicated to some type of home upgrades (running wires, mounting ceiling fans, landscaping our tiny yard, etc.) It will take me at least through the end of the summer to finish. And then our daughter will be born. No rest for the wicked!

I really wouldn't know where to start. Over the last 25 years of gaming, I have accumulated so much with good intentions. My backlog percentage just keeps getting larger as I get older.

I would tried finish most modern games i bought, except STALKER:Shadow of Chernoby, and Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY.
There are quite a lot of cheap games that i bought from GOG during year end promotion; i never bothered much to finish them:
1) Tyrian 2000
2) Jagged Alliance 2
3) Beneath a Steel Sky
4) Tex Murphy 1+2
5) Beyond Good and Evil
6) Raptor: Call of the Shadows
7) Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project
Frozen Fireball

Well, I think the poll is a bit on the low side, ( especially for RPGwatch ) I personally have +100 games that I need to finish right now and it's just getting bigger and bigger. I like to play any PC game that is considered classic plus all of the newer games, but there's not enough time. I keep my focus on very few games and when I finish them, I switch my focus into another one. But that doesn't stop me from buying loads of games every once in a while.

I have played through ca. 160 western crpgs. Many of them twice or more. So my backlog is not sooo great -> ca. 7-10 games in the crpg-genre:
among others:
Bloodstone
Dark Heart of Uukrul
Dragon Wars
Helherron
Magic-Candle 1,2,3
I want to replay some older games, but I have not enough time.

Purchased, but mostly unplayed:
X3
Drakensang1
NWN2 + MotB (started the OC a couple times but never came close to finishing)
Eschalon 2
Gothic 1
Bioshock 2 (just started)
King's Bounty: Armored Princess
Divine Divinity (tinkered with it some, but never made it out of the opening dungeon)
ToEE (tinkered, never past the opening town)
Witcher 1
need to finish or really want to replay
Wiz8
MM7
Majesty + Northern Expansion (need to finish)
Dungeon Siege 2 (thanks a lot for that thread, folks ;) )
Deus Ex (never did play past Hong Kong)
Anno 1701 (put in some time, but much more to do)
didn't purchase yet, but would definitely buy if I wasn't consumed with guilt
Din's Curse
One of the Spiderweb games (don't remember which one I demo'd)
My real problem is that I'm mainly a monogamous gamer. I might run a casual game "on the side" such as Puzzle Quest or Plants vs Zombies, but it's basically one game at a time. My drug of choice for the past year-and-some has been DDO, so none of the above titles have gotten any love. Sad, because I'm pretty sure some of those games would be tremendous fun for me. There's a ton of hours in those lists, too.

need to finish or really want to replay
Wiz8.
Haven't you played Wiz 8 enough? ;)
Deus Ex (never did play past Hong Kong)
Great game, and Hong Kong was one of the best levels imo. What happened?

Just too many.
Most I haven't even ever played once. But I consistently find myself getting drawn back to replaying games instead of diving into something new. I chalk it up to mental fatigue.

Haven't you played Wiz 8 enough? ;)8 wins, 4 Rapax Rifts, and right around 120 parties at least as far as Arnika Road? Nope, still a long way to go. ;)
Great game, and Hong Kong was one of the best levels imo. What happened? It's been quite a while, so I don't remember all the details. Being a complete-ist, the Hong Kong map had me a little frustrated (hard map to properly mow) and then some other shiny came along, prompting me to punt.
Additions to the list now that I'm home and can see them:
Jagged Alliance 2 + Unfinished Business
Medieval Total War + Viking Invasion

Well, I don't know if I'd call it a backlog, but here are the crpgs that I still haven't played: The comments are somewhat tongue in cheek!
The Gothic series (I've started every game but get bored before getting very far).
Baldur's Gate 2 (I got sick of all the contingency/counterspell crap and stories are never enough to keep me going).
Planescape Torment (not really a crpg, but an interactive book that you walk around till you find the next talker).
Venetica (don't own)
Torchlight (don't own)
Diablo 1&2 (don't own)
Replays that I'm looking forward to if I can find a way to get them to run:
Legacy of the Ancients
Questron II
Legend of Blacksilver
Amberstar
Phantasie I-III
DeepO

I only have few since I don't buy many games... also lack of time and interest.
Ones I own and hope to finish sometimes:
PS:T (I did finish it once but heavily relying on walkthrough as I got sick of reading)
BG1 (Similar story. I got bored and relied on walkthrough to finish on easiest setting)
Games I have started but may never finish:
Nehrim (Not that I disliked game.. I just can't get used to oblivion control)
MotB (Similar to Nehrim. I hate NWN2 camera/control)
The Witcher (I hate combat system)
Jade Empire (Not bloody likely, since I couldn't get into story and now I also lost the copy)
Games I want to play at some point:
Drakensang: River of time (Just ordered yesterday)
FFIX (Will be getting it around my b day :D)
FFX/FFVII/FXVIII (Most likely will play them if I like FFIX -- never played FF series before)
Starcraft: Wings of Liberty (My fiance is keep trying to convince me to get into it... just like he did with WoW -- and succeded)

If budget titles my system can't run anymore don't count, there are none. Otherwise there are two Myst games in my backlog.

With the holidays approaching, I'm hoping to get into a few games (a couple that are still in wrap.). I don't generally have a "backlog" as such, as there's always stuff to play - especially older games.
I just finished Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (huzzah!) which means I can break out into the other games that have been distracting me. (NFS Pro Street about 40 % through and Dead Space - up to Chapter 5).
Non-RPG:
Stalker: Call of Pripyat
Metro 2033
Portal
The Curse of Monkey Island
The Dig
To play:
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. (It'll be my second playthrough. I want to try out the Camarilla mod and a Malkavian character.)
NWN Diamond edition (I really want to play all of the additional modules, just haven't gotten around to it yet.)
Lands of Lore 2+3
@Ghan: I played Redemption before I played Bloodlines - it was really worth it despite the occasional fight with the engine. The hilarious, quasi-Shakespearian campy dialogue (well written though I think) and story overall, kept me playing until the end. I quite enjoyed it and I think it enriched my enjoyment for Bloodlines even more.
For the summer:
Fallout: New Vegas with all the DLC hopefully. (Will be my fourth character.)
Might and Magic II (C64) (It's the only one I haven't played to the end.)
Ultima 8&9. (I aborted my Pagan playthrough about half way last year…need to get back to it.)

Finishing PoR 2 is quite a feat I think. I began this game twice and finished half of it in my both playthroughs. My first play through was in 2001 and my saves were gone because of a terrible virus (Chernobil I think). I began anew in 2005, this time I got bored in the dark elf section and my saves were gone with my previous computer. Actually I have played it without any speed mod, and moving of the zombies were taking ages. This shows what a patient man I am :) . Actually with all it's monotony, this game has a charm for me. I don't know really why. But, one day I'm going to begin anew and this time will finish it (but this time with the speed mod) :)

My backlog is very crowded right now. There're two reason of this. First I'm working so hard, because of that generally I can only find enough time and energy to play games in weekends. Second I'm also a slow gamer. I try to do every quest, talking with every NPCs, reading every line of text, exploring all the map, killing everything etc. Today I finally finished Two Worlds 2 and my playtime is over 90 hours.
I buy pretty much every RPGs on the market and install them on my computer. Now my desktop is full with lots of game waiting to be played by me. If I make a short list:
Games waiting in my desktop to be played:
- Mass Effect 1 - 2
- Drakensang: The River of Time
- Alpha Protocol
- Hunted: The Demon's Forge
- Silverfall
- Betreyal At Krondor
- Fallout New Vegas
- Hard to be a God
- A Farewell to Dragons
- Stalker
- Ultima V: Lazarus
- Nehrim
- Metro 2033
- Gorasul
- You can add this catalogue various games that I played in the past but want to play once again including Ultima 7-8-9, Arx Fatalis, Baldur's Gate 1 with tutu, Gothic 2 Gold, Pool of Radiance 2, Wizardy 8, Planscape Torment.
Games that I'm playing right now:
- Might&Magic 6 (I'm in the middle of the game, finished all the dungeons in 9 maps, 6 maps remains)
- The Withcer 2 (I'm at the beginning of the game, still waiting for the aspect ratio patch)
- Dungeon Siege 3 (finished half of it)
- Dragon Age 2 (I'm in Act 2 right now)
- Two Worlds (I began this game after finished Two Worlds 2 today)
So much game, but less time unfortunately. :)
