Can't run up hills or even over tiny bumps?

I've just installed the Steam version of the Dragon Knight Saga and have found that my character cannot run up any incline, no matter how slight. I can run on flat surfaces and downhill without any sort of problems, but as soon as I go up a hill or stairs, I simply run in place. This even happens if there's a slight, barely perceptible rise or bump in the ground. It's extremely annoying, especially when in combat, to constantly have to slowly trudge up every slight incline. I played the earlier version of the game and never had this happen.

Anyone else encountered this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

It's not correct. The game should behave like every other game. You can run up stairs and normal hills.
