Have anyone played silverfall yet?
Is it just another "kill hordes for xp" kind of game or does it have more than that? Story? Quests? Dialogue? Personal choices? Moral questions?

Note:
Titan Quest and Diablo 2 bore me to tears but Divine Divinity was great.
I also hated Dungeon Siege but I loved the sequel.

See, out of that group I still don't get why you liked the DS2 ... it wasn't bad but I actually liked Titan Quest at least as much. Oh well ;)

But from your description I would tend to say that you wouldn't like it. There are attempts at story and quests and non-linear exploration ... but all within the context of an combat-heavy action-RPG.

I can easily explain why I enjoyed DS2...
* Extensive story/background info with books, well described artifacts etc to flesh out the world
* Actual dialogue with people you meet
* Alot of well made subquests, some with alot of athmosphere (loved the ghost quest)
* Companions with their own opinions and optional questlines, "people" that you learn to hate or love for who they are

Like Divine Divinity, DS2 was more than a simple Hack & Slash. It had a world, with actual history, people and a story that felt like it meant something.

Titan Quest in comparision was 100% linear, no companions, no dialogue, no memorable NPC's, no story you need to bother about, subquests are finished automaticly without effort nor thinking, no decent dialogue with NPC's, no books, artifacts/quest items were just icons in the inventory with stats, nothing more. It's "walk forth, kill stuff, sell stuff, get xp, level up, walk forth, kill stuff, sell stuff, get xp, level up" etc.

I see from your decription that I might take a look at DS2 one day. If it has more flesh than DS1 ...

I recently played DS1 through, and became sooooo bored. The "Yesterhaven" add-on (played a modded single-player version of it) was *much* , much better than the campaign. Same goes fo the Multiplayeer part. They even had hubs (teleporters) in it !

I still don't get it why this game was so designed that all the goodies went into multiplayer and almost none into singleplayer. It appears to me as if the whole game was designed as MP-only, and the SP part was glued to it just to increase sales a little bit.

DS1 was - in the retrospective - one of the worst and most boring games I've ever played. Totally Tedious (TT).

So, if DS2 has more flesh, then I might take a look at it. I think I've got a demo somewhere here ...

I think that DS2 is pretty good, but wouldn't put it on level with DivDiv by any measure. I found that much of the structure and play was far better than DS1, but still not what I would call deep.

Comparing DS and DS2 is like comparing Diablo with Divine Divinity.
While they share the same engine and looks the same at first glance, DS is a partybased Hack & Slash game in which you just walk forth killing everything in sight, pretty close to Titan Quest.

DS2 is more like "Baldurs Gate 2 light" with diablo-style combat. I cannot say it's the best roleplaying game I have ever played, and not as good as DD, but unlike DS it is a real rpg, and it feels closer to the partybased RPG's from Black Isle/Bioware than diablo. There is a real story, that escalate several times throughout the game and the amount of detail and background info you are fed is heavy... there is enough text written for DS2 to fuel an entire campaign for a pen and paper RPG.

I think that regardless what opinions one might have about DS1, they should forget that experience and try DS2. DS2 is not the kind of RPG where you do subquests just for bonus xp and more gold. DS2 is the kind of RPG where you do subquests because they are fun and exciting to do and they flesh out the world.

Sadly they fell back a bit with Broken World, but Broken World still felt like a needed end chapter.

I was digging through my notes, and I think that it is Broken World that has left my overall DS2 impression, which is too bad because I was pretty high on DS2 itself. Thanks for reminding me.

Yeah, Broken World fell back on the DS1 formula. Pretty linear. I believe my companions only spoke to me twice or so. I rushed the end of it. It's one of thoose sad sequels you only play because you loved the first game.

Back on Silverfall, I played the preview release, but have no idea on the retail. I just realized it is already out in the EU - it releases next week here.

Im not against action, but I play games for the story and there's a limited amount of game I can take before I need something that progress the story or expand the game in some way. That have always been the case. Even strategygames tend to bore me if I have to do long missions with no story in between, but even in a game like Serious Sam there was a funny joke given to you often enough for me to enjoy it all the way through.
If you have to bash monsters for an hour or two before you get the next piece of progress then im already bored.

That was why I was somewhat dubious about you liking it. I have noticed that I've not yet preloaded on Steam despite having ample opportunity, and I'm trying to decide if my brain is saying that I've had enough with just the preview ...
