"Hero Save
Save your accumulated Experience, Renown, Items and Statistics up to this point in the game. Your quest progress will not be saved."

Can someone tell me how this work exactly. When am I supposed to save?

I remember I talked to the first NPC's in Chapter 2 and got the next quest but when I loaded the game now I fell back to the ending of Chapter 1. Do I have to finish a whole chapter before I can turn off the game or what?

Hero Save is sort of like an in-game save for most action-RPG's, where you start back at some predetermined spawn point but have your loot and experience saved.

World Saves are available when you are in certain 'safe' locations, at certain points. Early on it seems a pain, but once you get going past the tutorials and first bit of the opening chapter you can save after pretty much every quest.

Hero saves are worth of nothing. world saves can only save your quest progress. That means you can't save during a quest. So save before you enter the quest location.. Usually i'm all against restrickting quicksaves in rpg games, but in fable I didn't really need a quicksave because the Resurrection vials are so plenty.. you can hardly "die" in fable :)
