I came across this picture on Yahoo. Has anyone ever seen the creatures on the left side of that screenshot? The photo is listed as being from Gothic 2, although I think it looks more like a screenshot from G1.

I'm thinking that maybe it's from an early build of the game perhaps?

i've never seen it... it looks like it's from g1, g2 looks way better than this...

The scenery looks like it is Gothic 1 ... but I've never seen them there.

Could they be in a mod ?

Or they could perhaps very early concept creatures ?

Looks like the one on the far left is hopping like a frog... probably a concept creature for G1.

I had an old video from Gothic 1 in pre-alpha status, the shot resembles that. There were probably more monsters which didn't make it into the game, e.g. in the video there were orc-like creatures which looked a little bit like undead shamans.

Okay, now for your pleasure, here are some snapshots from the video, which looks quite final, but has some things in it which aren't included in the final game. Diego with a blue outfit, an arena (for testing purposes, I suppose), an old version of the minecrawler, an old version(?) of the inventory, etc. pp. Enjoy.

they look like the biters from gothic 1 who i believe showed up again in notr. though i thought they were a lighter colour.

yeah I thought of biters too, they were used as a meat source for the orcs, they have them in NOTR but that screenshot looks like gothic 1

They're definitely not biters. Here's a snapshot of a biter.

Hindukönig, I would really like to be able to see that video in action. Do you know of any place on the web that might have it?

I was about to ask a similar question.

I'm interested in that video as well.

Yeah, that's the video. The .avi on my harddrive isn't of much better quality.
But there's that old, old Gamestar-video about Gothic 1, where they had great plans (the player could become a guru) ... and the landscape in that video isn't much more than the Old Camp. Very nice, IMHO.

Found that one as well...

Wow, this one is really old! You can see that very few of the textures were finished at that point. Very interesting view for Gothic fans though.

Did I see this wrong or was there a multiplayer option on the first screen ?

I saw it too. I never saw one of those videos of G1, damn it looked so cool and now I want to replay it again :D

Multiplayer was planned for a long time for Gothic 1, until late of the development. The dumped the idea because they couldn't make the story/plot flexible enough for multiple players. At least that was the "official" explanation, I always wondered how it would be as a coop game, one player taking the role of the nameless one, the other one plays Mud ...

That might really have been the problem...
An arena might have been nice though.

well... they had the arena in which you could fight some guys to get a guy's trust... they could have made the matches in that arena or something... you know that guy from the arena says that there will be fights soon but that never happens...

the other one plays Mud ...

Talking enemies to death ? ;)

In multiplayer Mud could be the human shield and take one for the team.

I saw the video some time ago. it's very cool and the idea of the arena was very good. Idea which will be implemented in Zerxes' Gothic Multiplayer Mod. About those creatures, their shape is like the one of the bitters, but they're different creatures. Or maybe they're an old version of the bitters since the old version.

first... you do not double post on this forum..., you could just edit your post....

second... did you read the first page? i think someone already said it was from beta... no "detective work"...

I use the phrase 'avatar' the most, but you're welcome to use your phrase. As long as it keeps understandable offcourse.

edit: And thank you for the compliment
