new to game

So I've been playing the game for a few days now and ive pretty much been just running around killing stuff. My question is how do I upgrade my weapon and stuff? I gained like 5 levels but my str and hp all stay the same. How do I improve my character?

Mostly by talking to NPCs. Sometimes you have to do a quest before they will train you. Most settlements have at least a strength/fighting trainer, and sometimes there are thief, hunting, and magic trainers as well.

Hitpoints, mana, endurance, and (Innos/Fire and Beliar/Lightning) spells can be learned at altars. Neutral (Adanos/Water) spells are learned from druids and water mages.

Ancient knowledge can be learned from mages and druids.

unlike in previous Gothic series, hp does not increase with a level-up. you have to find a shrine & pray..
