What an absolute shock, and at his age. He surprised me by being able to take the baton of his predecessors and being able to run with it. He could ask some tough and inciteful questions unapoletically in an age of watered down and aging tv journalism.

Not sure what damage you're referrring to, CU.
Although he favored the wrong side of the aisle, his approach was refreshing in an age of soft-pitch interviews.

I don't get your reference either, c.u., but I'll miss Russert's coverage. He was a pro. And younger than me--sad.

AAAHHHGGG!!
That was gross, apparently that Wiki page was temporarily hacked. When I clicked on it there was a very disgusting pornographic image. I clicked on it again about a minute later and it was gone.

i'm not suprised. he maybe was a good interviewer, but he is a horrible journalist and while he may have started out democrat, in his heart, soul, and actions he's about as much a democrat as joe liberman. my idea was that i hold him accountable for a lot that is wrong because of his complacancy on so many issues and while not necessarily being a republican stooge his was an administration one, in addition to being the basically the equivalent of white house spokesperson for the nbc empire which is directly tied to the war and its profits; which is not their 'image' like fox which takes all the heat, but its not that nbc and its pundits are war promoters, but they are apologists, and they weaken the progressive ideas of the democratic party when ever possible.
this feelings toward russert are my own and not anything i've read anywhere else, simply a reflection of every moment i've seen him speek.
but i googled this bit and found someone who has some links
-------Saying that you don't care to answer the debate questions is not very helpful. Why even bother, Nighttimer? Whom Russert ticks off, or not, has little bearing on the topic. Whether or not anyone claims Russert is irrelevant. The topic is (1) what is Russert? and (2) why do you think so?
Y'know, when Russert rewords talking points as questions, they are curiously and usually Republican talking points. Russert shows his true colors from time to time.
Here are a few good ones.
"Russert recited Irrelevant Facts on SS. None of his panelists challenged him"
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh011005.shtml
Russert said Dems were “blaming America.”
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh062804.shtml
Russert pushes RNC talking points
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh120202.shtml
Russert tells Pelosi that criticism of the president hurts the troops
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh060104.shtml
I catch Russert's show from time to time. He asks good questions. Compared to other interviewers, he's a good journalist. He's better than most.
But in my opinion, Russert seems to be a Republican apologist, and I'm annoyed when he gets it wrong. But most of the time he does a pretty good job. I've not seen any evidence that Russert has any allegiance with the Democratic Party.
When Russert asks President Bush if he will meet with the Log Cabin Republicans, or when Russert asks Bush about the intelligence failures leading up to the Iraq War, those are fair questions. (Never mind that Bush didn't answer the Iraq question, and Tim let it go: http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh020904.shtml) But when Russert pushes the talking points that are irrational, such as the stuff about "Dems blaming America" or "Pelosi hurts the troops," I believe he could be a lot more discerning and a lot less partisan.

edit: heres one i found on my own seems 200,000 other folks don't like NBC (russerts) style either.

montel williams not a good journalist but we could "mourn" his shows death when he was axed for going on fox and complaining about lack of war coverage earlier this year.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montel_Williams
or more notably the death of Donahue for his lonely views leading up to the war in iraq by NBC.
i remember both of these guys from being a kid and i thought they were clowns. clowns or not its a sad state when talk show hosts are among the few in the media willing to offer dissenting views and not just push the corporate (republican and democrat) agenda.
and so in conclusion, russert may have had some great interviews and other accolades, and my heart goes out to his family--but i'm not sorry to see him go and maybe if he meets some iraqi children wherever he is maybe he'll be a change man, women, or insect if he gets another chace at it.
