The project lead said the end of this fiscal year(whatever that means), and I heard someone on the forum say early 2009.

I believe that means at the end of their financial year. Companies report their financial earnings over quarters. Quarters can be different for every company. So, the end of their fiscal year can be ealry 2009. Most likely May/April.
