Hello,
Finally i bought a UK Version of Fallot 3 and I am about to start it right now, however I read that the balance of this game is somewaht awkward, you get too powerful to early and things like that .......
So what I want to know is ;
Do you have any recommendations for "Balancing Mods" or something like that, and btw does this game have this awful Level scaling scheme like Oblivion did, and if so, are any mods out there to deal with this ???
Thanks in advance,
L.

I've seen a mod but I haven't tried it, so I'll leave that to others. I don't think the balance is that bad - at level 10, I still find multiple mid-level mobs troublesome (although rarely deadly) and mirelurks and deathclaws are dangerous. I do have plenty of ammo but I occasionally run low of my favourites, so I do conserve.
I'd be surprised if playing on the hardest difficulty didn't make it reasonably challenging.
As for scaling, I don't know all the details but it scales within ranges (lower and upper limits) and some areas or types are locked into a range once you first encounter them. You won't see anything like Oblivion.

Yeah, I'm still getting myself killed sometimes at normal difficulty. Though I have got my eye out for mods. Where's my "nude ghouls" mod, gohrram it!?! ;)

I'm still only level 3 and I have no problem getting killed regularly, especially when I run out of ammo for my equipped weapon in the middle of a conflict!! :)

On the whole, the balancing is pretty good, though it seems increasing skills happens a little too swiftly in fo3. At Int 7, I get 16 skill points and a new perk with each lvl up. I don't know of any balancing mods yet, but I think a useful one would be to lower the skill alotment a bit, and to reduce perks to every second or third lvl. There's also quite a few books laying around to raise your skills, but they only raise it 1 point (or two with the right perk) which seems okay to me.

i'm scared to read the other threads on Fallout 3 due to spoilers and i believe that there should be a spoiler-free thread to discuss other issues like game-play and such. :)
atm, i'm planning to get fallout 3 and hope have a blast with it.

Balancing?? The game certainly isnt hard, not as much as it predecessors were. It's not too easy its a great game to have fun, if you want challenge turn up the difficulty or play with only Int 3 since there isnt any dumb character path you wont have problems with quests. In my first time i had 20 skill points and a new perk with each lvl up and comparing to the Fallout 2 thats too much. There are some mods that turn of bobbleheads bonus ,try www.fallout3nexus.com

Reading the NMA-forums a bit, one could come to the conclusion that this is the most abysmal game ever. I think it's not. But the balance is indeed a catastrophe. The game is too easy. Period. In fact you only have to allot 40 skill points to each skill, with that you can max out all skills, just as in Oblivion. Because there are so many books and the bobbleheads which give bonuses. And you get up to 23 skill points or so alone with every single level-up.
The SPECIAL-system is utterly screwed, the attributes have little effect on the actual gameplay.
Playing it on "very hard" is no real solution, since it only gives the enemies more hp, makes them ridiculously hard to kill.
I'm afraid the best thing would be to wait for some serious rebalancing-patches, and those have to get tweaked themselves also, so it'll take some time...

I finally picked this game and have to say I'm impressed with the lurking sense of fear I have when playing alone in the dark at night. I still get killed playing on hard and have ammo issues even with the perk that gives more ammo in chests. I'm using small weapons/science/speech/repair to get through the game. Only found one bobble head so far, but i haven't followed the main plot much yet.
