It's past time we revisited the Countdown (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?t=557493) to the Gothic 3 v1.7 Community Patch, so it's timely that Constantine writes in to point out item #5 - Alternative AI, Part 1 (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?t=557493&page=11):
Alternative A.I. Part 1

- New game mode with the aim to make the melee fights more appealing and tactical (How? That is for later...)

- Can be (de)activated independent of both difficulty level and Alternative Balancing

- Can be turned on or off at any time (even in a running game). Only in the middle of a fight it can lead to erroneous or senseless actions of the opponents

- The mode is activated through a switch in the difficulty menu

- The switch is, following the name "alternative", initially turned off after installation

"As with Alternative Balancing, depending on the difficulty level one, two, or three adversaries can attack the hero at the same time": for the difficulty level "Easy" the opponents still attack alone, with "Medium" maximum two and with "Hard" in groups of three together at a time (see countdown 6).

Someone in the WoG thread has benchmarked 1.7 against 1.6 - seems faster...

The trouble is that I couldn't bring myself to stop playing last weekend. I'm getting deeper into the game, and I'm not sure if I can cope with the low-level grind again once 1.7 is out. It's a real shame savegames aren't compatible, but them's the breaks...

I have purposely held off installing G3 as I have been waiting for this patch. I enjoyed G1 and 2 + expansion for the very first time last summer and I want to make G3 as enjoyable as possible.

Still out in march, yes?

I loved G2 as well but when I first installed G3 when it came out I could not play the game on my computer...mind you it was decent enough to play anything else out even now from oblivion to fallout 3. The first 10 minutes were hell from all the slowdown...I shelved it. Would it be worth playing after the 1.7 release?

I'm in the same boat. I still have my save from last year, and I'm not willing to start over. Mainly because I'm about 3/4 finished with a Mage build, and whenever I play G3 a 2nd time, it will be as a warrior.

I played this game from start to finish once on the very first patch, and almost beat it a second time with 1.6. Unfortunately I was upset with myself for liberating too many cities too quickly and once I hit the desert I couldn't get into any outposts there without agroing the orcs.

Hopefully 1.7 will make this all work out ;)

@DArtagnan re: (Still out in march, yes?)

previous countdown dates.

10 - 02.03.2009

09 - 05.03.2009 = 3 days

08 - 08.03.2009 = 3 days

07 - 11.03.2009 = 3 days

06 - 12.03.2009 = 1 day

05 - 15.03.2009 = 3 days

Using the above 3 day average as an approximate guideline,
a projected target date release might be...

04 - 18.03.2009 = 3 days

03 - 21.03.2009 = 3 days

02 - 24.03.2009 = 3 days

01 - 27.03.2009 = 3 days

00 - 30.03.2009 = 3 days

...maybe about = 1st april 2009 (april fools day) :D

It will probably be released the 2nd since on the first they are going tell all of us that it was just a april fools joke and it never existed. It will then be released the next day.

These AI changes are exactly what this game badly needed from the start! Good news!

Makes me glad I didn't play that much before starting Forsaken Gods ... now I can just start over again.
