Now that just wasn't fair at all. The druid told me to check with him when I found out about the temple. Sure thing. The lead mage told me not to follow the Inquisitor blindly. OK. So off I go into the volcano.

I eventually do all the spinning wheel things and suddenly the 'inform the druid quest' finishes. Wha? I haven't told him anything yet! OK, teleport off to the druid. 100xp more and I'm told to explore deeper. Fine, I'll be back.

I keep going in deeper, finding all sorts of big, important things. Yet the druid had no advice to give at all! Popping back to the lead mage resulted in a pretty fun quest but he wasn't interested in what was going on down in the volcano, either. There's got to be some sort of big choice or the devs wouldn't have two highly respectable NPCs warning me about it but now they don't want to give any advice? Odd.

So I plug along. It's time to put some skulls on some pedistals. This is obviously the time for the big decision! Named save! Talk to everybody… they still aren't interested. What the heck?? There's no way I want this titan to get out of it's box. I didn't want to release that spirit but I did it anyway because it was the only way to advance the plot. Now it's forcing me to release a titan!?

This ain't good. I know sometimes storylines are going to force me to do something I really would rather not do but after getting told not to follow the Inquisitor blindly, I'm being forced to follow him blindly anyway?? Come on!

This is my first real disappointment with Risen. Hyping me up for a big decision then not letting me decide what to do really isn't a good thing, IMHO. Did I miss something somewhere??

Nope, you didn't miss anything. They simply advice you not to follow the Inquisitor, and that's an advice the hero automatically follows - you oppose him instead of following him when he wants to release the titan.

I found it interesting that the game pretty much leaves it up to you whether or not you stick with the Inquisitor for the entire chapter 3. The do hint at a sense of urgency so it feels like the natural thing to do is stay in the temple and follow the Inquisitor until he is satisfied.

That being said, it is entirely possible to teleport out of the temple at any time before you reach the final Titan door. It does disrupt the narrative flow of the story ("I know we're investigating this ancient temple and everything, but hang on a sec, I have to run some errands!"), but there is no other "breather" you can take between Ch3/Ch4 to do these things. The only place where might fit is when you have to chase the hunting party down to get the volcano map. There you briefly DO exit the volcano to finish this goal. So while you're out you could rationalize running some errands before going back in.

Anyway during my first game as a Don Warrior, I used breaks between temple sub-missions to visit Harbor Town and see what changes occurred due to the Don takeover. I also went to trainers to beef up skills and was able to finish the "report to the druid" quest.

Oppose him? By setting up 4 skulls on pedistals for him, then asking him nicely not to do this? Grrrrr. I wish I had gotten to really oppose him. A loud shout of "NO!" then the Inquisitor whacks me on the back of the head when I try to smash one of the skulls with a rock... I watch through bleary eyes as he puts the skulls on the pedistal himself then slips inside. It would have worked and I would have felt a lot better about my character. Ah well, I'll survive.

Oh, and the huntress' husband somehow managed to get killed by that hunting party. And her pet dog, too. Darn, how could life be so cruel? I better go console her. ;)

I was a little leary about that spirit as well, but after releasing him I think he would make an excellent antagonist for Risen 2. Immortal spirit suddenly freed to do as it wishes. Maybe he is a little mad about being imprisoned all those years :)

I haven't finished Chapter 4 yet, so I have no idea what happens to it. I just had a funny feeling that he will be playing a bigger role in the next game.

Anyways, I totally agree with you with no one seeming to care about what is going on. After chapter 2 you hardly find anything new from the NPCs other than a sentence or two.

You'll oppose him later on. Don't worry.

I wanted to follow Mendoza. Screw this island, it's worth to try save a world with a chance of failure and pay the cost of one little island. There isn't anything worth of saving - little population, corrupted authorities, very few women (and most of them are whores anyway) while so many men - so there is no chance they will repopulate the world if it becomes safe (and total lack of children - well, I guess that's because of very few women) Come on, who would save that for te cost of whole world? But no, I CAN'T JOIN MENDOZA, BECAUSE ITZ BAD! ITZ WRONG!!! So my character says he disagrees, because it's SOOOO EVIIIIIIIL. Fuck him and this whole island, actually Mendoza is right.
