Warhorse Studios has a new forum post for Kingdom Come: Deliverance where they take a look at how Vegetation would have looked like in the 15th century.

Spring is coming to an end and summer stands around the corner. As you probably know, KCD will also take place in springtime. After your grate discussion about arrow quivers I am wondering which vegetation was typical in the early 15th century. Which plants, weeds, crops and trees do you know? Let’s say goodbye to the spring with a discussion, pictures and facts about medieval vegetation in Central Europe.
More information.

i think he's being a grammar nazi, i.e. that it should read "would have looked"

OT, while I appreciate "realism" and accuracy, I don't know where they stand budget-wise and I can't help but think that's resource better spent elsewhere? I've never lsot immersion because I thought "Well, that tree's not in the proper era!"

Nah he was just being a toll and all you have to do is look at his past replies.

Anyway time does change how a region looks. They at least admitted the game will be changed to reflect how it was back then. So lets wait and see.

I do agree with you about budget concerns though.

Interesting, but you can usually ask archaeologists (the ones specialised in archaeobotany) about this; often you can find the information in publications of course, but it's not as if the professionals in question are unapproachable.

Probably would save a lot of time too...

late or early 15th C? At the beginning of the 16th C new world foods became a huge hit including potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, corn, etc. I think about 1/3 of the world's most popular food is now from the Americas.

for 15th C, I think the parsnip was king. Also, people ate only meat whenever possible (kings and lords) because it was better for you - they had the same humours as people. Deer was reserved exclusively for the king so villages needed a falconer.

Otherwise, people ate porridge, drank beer and used parsnips for their root vegetables. The stove wasn't invented yet so women tended the hearth all day.

Dont forget that most of the game is still financed by private investor. So they dont work with overly tight budget.

I don't think its a waste at all (no surprise there maybe). There's a lot of vegetation and it has amongst the biggest impacts on the general look and feel of the whole environment in the game, apart from interiors. If they're going for a realistic game it would be pretty dumb to neglect such a thing.

nah ppl were were weary of this new stuff and common ppl had no clue of it until 18-19th century - at least in Central Europe (Habsburg Empire), corn came into use even later….

As for pepper it was so expensive in Europe that in some places it replaced money, also its origin is not from Americas. If u mean chili pepper than that thing is not even in any traditional cousin of central European nations so no use for that.

They should instead go for the historical authentix sexual intercourse system. That would be a lot simpler than vegetation and stuff as with the missionary position, which is the only one allowed, there's much less variety.

I believe he is refering to the vegetable (Bell Pepper or Capsicum), not the spice. It originates from central America as far as I'm aware of... I don't think the vegetable was ever used as currency was it?

Century-correct vegetation art.

Is this why we can't have good gameplay anymore?

If he meant paprika/capsicum then yes it is common nowadays especially in South European cuisine but not so much in Eastern and Central. Though i doubt that it became common by 1550 in Central Europe, since wiki says that it came from Americas to Spain in 1500.

As for vegetable/spice used as currency check out black pepper. Wiki also has short reference on this.
