Intresting reading for any outcast fan: Franck Sauer (one of the former Appeal devs) posted some info about the cancelled development of Outcast II on his site and there are some vids and concept arts etc: http://francksauer.com/index.php/co...hed-prototypes/29-outcast-2-the-lost-paradise

So it seems that former outcast devs have aquired outcast rights and have formed a studio called DAOKA. Apparently they are planning some kind of kickstarter project in the future

DAOKA: About Kickstarter, we are seriously working on that right now. Stay tuned.

Oh and if you're wondering what kind of game outcast was. http://www.gog.com/game/outcast

I found the original to be interesting, but ultimately not interesting enough - and somewhat overrated. It also ran like a dog on high-end hardware.

I thought Outcast was great when it was released, but it's aged quite poorly imo.

I remember really liking the world and exploration it offered back in the day. However, when I tried playing the GOG version last year, I was appalled at how ugly and clunky it was.

I'd probably be interested in a sequel though. If it's successful enough, maybe they could also give the original game a facelift.

Yes, exactly, I think giving the original game a facelift would be a logical first step....

That is like the best rpg news i have heard this year. Well except for wasteland2 which was even better news.

Wasn't there a project trying to recreate Outcast in Unreal Engine 3 or something similar?

Outcast used voxel approach for the engine (wasn't first, IIRC the first game with that was Apache, helicopter sim) and it looked amazing on now ancient machines. Abandoning that system would be unfair to the original. Especially because there is a voxel based game on Kickstarter many of us supported - Planet Explorers:

It's Unity.

If recreating it would go in Unity, I'd rebuy the game. If it would use FPS engines, I'd skip it.

Sadly, and regardless what the project leader says, IMO that unofficial sequel is dead. :(
