BETHESDA SOFTWORKS EXPANDS GLOBAL OPERATIONS

Bethesda Softworks Opens Offices in France and Germany

April 29, 2010 (London, UK) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced the expansion of its global operations, opening offices in Frankfurt, Germany and Paris, France. Bethesda Softworks, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland currently has international offices located in London and Tokyo. The opening of the two new European offices marks another exciting step forward for Bethesda Softworks, best known for publishing titles from two of the world’s top development studios – Bethesda Game Studios and id Software.

Both offices will directly oversee sales and marketing in their respective territories, underscoring Bethesda Softworks’ commitment to its global publishing operations. With the opening of the new offices comes the appointment of two new territory General Managers. Frank Matzke joins Bethesda Softworks as Managing Director, Germany and Julie Chalmette joins as Managing Director, France. Prior to joining Bethesda Softworks Frank Matzke was Vice President, Europe at Sierra Entertainment and Marketing Director, Central Europe at Vivendi Games. Julie Chalmette joins Bethesda Softworks after having previously held the position of General Manager for Vivendi Games France.

“The opening of offices in Frankfurt and Paris is a very exciting moment for Bethesda Softworks. We have an incredible roster of upcoming AAA games including Fallout®: New Vegas™, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge™, Brink™ and RAGE™,” said Sean Brennan, Managing Director, Bethesda Softworks Europe. “Frank and Julie’s extensive knowledge of their territories will help us to maximise and deliver upon these titles’ potential”.

It's good to see some expansion again, instead of another company closing down.

Bethesda spreads in Europe, god help us!

Huh ? New offices ? Outside their "mainland" ? What do they indend to accomplish with that ?

It might have something to do with the fact that Germany still have a relatively great PC-base … Consoles aren't that big there as in other countries .. (Although their (the consoles') base is growing …)

Seems like it's just a matter of marketing and distribution. Keep in mind that Bethesda is not only a developer - it's also a publisher. These new offices are most likely related to publishing, not development.

Bethesda Softworks: Publisher.
Bethesda Game Studios: Developer.

Then there is the mother company Zenimax. The mentioned London and Tokyo offices use the names Zenimax Europe and Zenimax Asia.

The specific offices for France and Germany will mostly have to do with publishing and maybe help in the localisation. If a french studio ever comes under Zenimax that might also be the contact point.

They might also use it to publish games which are published by other companies in the English speaking world. Kind of how Bethesda Softworks published Rockstar's Bully in Japan.

I agree with the first poster. Like or hate Bethesda, it's good to see some actual growth happening in the middle of this global economic meltdown.

…For server support. So, we should expect MMO(RPG) from Bethesda.

There has been quite some rumor generated by some transcripts from the Interplay vs Bethesda case, but for now, we have no evidence that these new offices have anything to do with it, or anything else to do with anything except what Bethesda said.
