Dark Souls - DSfix v1.0 Released

DSfix v1.0 has been released, bringing a number of improvements to Dark Souls since we last looked at it. This latest version adds fully configurable keys and integrated SSAO but previous versions added features such as save-game backups, HUD-less screenshots, intro skipping and more.
More information.

Good to see somebody is making this work!

borcanu September 9th, 2012 10:16

he's releasing a version every 2 3 days, so don't take it as a final version cause it's 1.0

Good advice, thanks borcanu !

It's a shame to see a good soul make this kind of work, instead of the developper…

I don't know what SSAO or SMAA is so I have no idea what most of this fix is about.

SSAO stands for Screen space ambient occlusion.

Another explanation here.

I've no idea about SMAA other than it's some new type of anti-aliasing.

I did not worry about these settings and left them in their default values in the ini fix file, as the resolution fix alone was enough bring colour and contrast to the original 'streched' world. The 'hide mouse cursor' functionality was my second favourite.

Speaking of this plugin, there's already a 1.1 but it looks like releases are going to slow down.

1.1 is supposed to re-implement a DOF filter on distant terrain so it retains the blur effect the original game has, but without the pixelation. I have to say, despite still failing to get into this game, he's made it look extra pretty:
