however, it appears to be a move to break it away from unprofitable French parent company. Is that still called Infogrames?

I'm not sure, but I understood and thought it so that the mother company is still called "Infogrames", meanwhile its daughter companies are called "Atari".
I'm not sure, though. I'm a noob in business things.

Atari should be the leader of gaming companies, they should be the Microsoft of the gaming world.

I used to love anything Atari when I was a kid. They've been spotty for a long time, but I might never have got into gaming if it weren't for them.

Plese DO NOT mix the "Atari" label with Infogrames !

Infogrames basically bought the label and labelled themselves with it !

They were too slow to adapt to a disruptive technology: home PCs. So in that sense they were killed by Microsoft and Apple. It happens.

Still bums me out in a way. I grew up with them, its too bad
