PC RPG for 2013

I couldn't find a list of coming PC/Mac RPG and it's tedious to follow game news so I was looking for a list of coming RPG, but it's not that easy to find, here the list I got. It's roughly ordered by hoped release date and most probably many won't be released in 2013.

I also added a list for turn based strategy game.

I - RPG (not including those very Tactical RPG see the TB Strategy section)
—————————————————————————-
Released (1 December):
Tales of Maj'Eyal (RL-S-ISO-MAC)

Despite the end of year is close, could be released in 2013:
South Park: Stick of Truth (TB-P-ISO)
Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox (DML-S-FP)

Certainly for 2014 or already planned for 2014 if not later:

Lords of Xulima (DML-P-ISO+FP-MAC) (ISO exploration, FP fights let hope like DM)
Neo Scavenger (TB-S-ISO-MAC)

Dark Souls II (A-S-FB)
Wasteland 2 (TB-P-ISO-MAC)
Legends of Eisenwald (TB-X-ISO)
Antharion (TB-P-ISO)
Grim Dawn (A-S-DL)
Umbra (A-S-DL)
Nuclear Union (A-S-FP)
Dragon Age 3 : Inquisition (AP-P-TP-MAC)

Legend for the RPG list:
A = Action during fights
TB = Turn Based during fights.

X = I don't know (haven't understood, lol)

S = Single Character
P = Party, more or less

DL = Diablo like, more or less
ISO = ISO, true, 3D, more top down
FP = First person point of view
FB = From behind point of view

MAC = Mac release clearly planned but perhaps not in 2013
mac = Mac release possible, meaning most probably none (either the game is a success then the developers don't bother with Mac, either it's a failure then they can't work on the Mac version).

Lords of Discord (SSW - MAC)
At The Gates (4X - MAC)

Legend for the Turn Based Strategy Games list:
MAC : Mac release done or almost sure.
mac : possible but not certain Mac release.

Don't put too much faith into the sub genre tags I give:
4X : More or less related to 4X games which means from Civilization to Master of Orion.
MM : More or less related to a Heroes of Might & Magic approach, or Age of Wonders.
TRPG : Tactical or Strategy game but with a large part of RPG elements.
SWG : Streamlined Wargame, not meaning no depth but typically with a higher focus on ease of use and appeal than pure realism or complexity.
SSG : Streamlined Strategy game not related to war games, not meaning no depth but typically with a higher focus on ease of use and appeal than pure realism or complexity.
CWG : More on the classical Wargame tendency, ie probably more for pure wargames fans.
CG - Card based game.

If I forget some in any list, please quote them.

EDIT: Update and added Turn based strategy section

wolfing April 28th, 2013 02:10

first one in the list says RL and 3rd one is X (not in the legend)

Drithius April 28th, 2013 02:13

Soonest to be released that I'm most looking forward to is Shadowrun Returns in June.

The problem with RPG is it's not mainly the general design setup that defines its interest, but just the quality of many many elements. Fail totally the fights and it's a burden. Fail the exploration and it's a "corridor" or an empty boring place. Fail the quests, and it feels generic, MMO like and boring. And so on.

So yes I hope a lot in Shadowrun Returns and hope Mac version won't be too much delayed but it could end be a tedious RPG.

Corwin April 28th, 2013 05:19

You forgot Grimoire!! :)

Lol, Corwin…

crpgnut April 28th, 2013 08:31

He said 2013, not 3013 Corwin ;)

Corwin April 28th, 2013 09:25

Hey, what's in a number?? If you don't believe me, just ask Cleve!! :)

Nameless one April 28th, 2013 10:22

There are few games missing from list. From released Path of exile, from to be released Malevolence and Paper sorcerer(both should come out soon), Underrail (should come out somewhere at end of this year\beginning of next) and I am pretty sure there are some more small kickstarter RPGs that I forgot.

GhanBuriGhan April 28th, 2013 10:52

Antharion (another KS RPG) is currently scheduled for Q4 2013.

Meriwether I believe is also still scheduled for Q4, although I think it's likely to end up delayed to 2014.

Then there is the crossover games like Expeditions: conquistadors and Legends of Eisenwald.

tuukka April 28th, 2013 12:27

Not a very interesting year for RPG's, IMHO. There isn't really even one absolute must-play title. Unless titles like Wasteland 2 actually get released this year.

2014 is on a whole another ballpark.

GhanBuriGhan April 28th, 2013 13:27

Really? I think there is a ton of really exciting stuff on that list.

Wow, and there I was thinking this was the best year for RPGs since like 1996 or something, but guess it will depend if games that are supposed to be released in 2013 are actually released in 2013.

Interesting. What are the exceptional titles you have played so far, and what are the must-plays for the rest of the year?

Regardless, in 2014 I will surely try out Witcher 3, Project: Eternity, Wasteland 2, and Age Of Eschalon 3. Might & Magic X might also be interesting, since it's supposed to be similar to earlier titles in the series. Torment has been moved to 2015.

I get that games like Dragon Age 3 and Dark Souls 2 excite many, but they are not my type. Too combat-oriented.

The rest of the titles need some great reviews to convince me.

sakichop April 28th, 2013 16:47

Must plays for me:

Divinity original sin
Chaos chronicals

Very interested in:

Shadowrun returns
The banner saga ( single player)
Dead state

Wildcard:

Dragonage 3 if the return to more of an origins type game I would be quite interested if the stay the DA2 course then it's a non factor.

Carnifex April 28th, 2013 18:07

Looks like a decent list for later this year, assuming we actually get some of them released before 2014. One thing I'm noticing about kickstarter projects, they sure do seem to take their time getting to the market.

Must play for me this year:

Original sin
Underrail
Eschalon book 3
Grim dawn
Wasteland 2
Age of decadence
Dead state

All of this have potential to be great games, for eschalon and underrail I already know because previous games in series and alpha in case of underrail.

For non RPGs:

Europa universalis 4:EU 3 is my most played game ever so this is potentially biggest release this year for me
Dragon commander
Age of wonders 3
Broken age:it should come out this year, but no time frame yet

Next on my playlist:Cat lady.

Form game that came out Path of exile was solid and Bioshock:infinite is extraordinary game and one of strongest GOTY candidates for me.So there is lot of(potentially)quality gaming for me I just wish I had more time for it.

joxer April 28th, 2013 19:39

Must play for me is only Meriwether and Nuclear Union. Hmm… Now when I wrote it, it's odd why I'm hyped over those two which are about completely opposite thing/stuff/countries/world/culture/etc.

Others… Depends. Will probably buy them all except smartphone ports, MMO and MMOlike grinders.

Path of Exile? Looked like a never ending beta.

Never heard of the 3 others, thanks, will add them on first post.

Path of Exile (A-S-ISO)
Underrail (TB-S-ISO)

Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox (DML-S-FP)
DML = Dungeon Master like, ie Real time and movements on a grid. Makes me realize I don't know if the M&M X is real time fights too, probably, the trailer video seems be RT.

Paper sorcerer (TB-S-FP)
I feel this one missed the opportunity to use a Dungeon Master like system. The "paper" idea is quite cool and cool allow win a lot of time and still have interesting graphics. But the demo shows JRPG TB fights, a very bad idea. And out of fights movements seems with rotation with keyboard to keep the mouse free, second bad idea it's rather different than just 4 directions (not rotation) to manage with the keyboard.
