Rampant Games - There's a Reason It's Called Back Story
The Rampant Coyote has some comments on improving game writing - specifically, by allowing gamers to discover the back story as they play, rather than excessive exposition up front:

Yet we have to learn timelines in "history" at school.

History in school = learning isolated facts = boring for most people.
I like the article though. I find it annoying when a character I meet in a CRPG tells me everything about themselves and what they think I could do for them straight away. Pretty stupid, to be honest. |
