I finished my first play through of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. I don't get the hate this game garners. Installation was a nightmare, and Steam patches broken and UBI support weak; but once running with manual patches, I experienced few bugs. A couple of instances getting stuck in the environment, one crash, maybe.

I played on max graphics settings, and I thought the level designs were creative, pretty and atmospheric. The sound also greatly added to the atmosphere.

I played as a mage, spamming fireballs with max magic affinity and mana regeneration.

I am replaying now as a strength-based swordsman.

This is one of the VERY few games I have been willing to replay a second time right away. The gameplay changes significantly between a mage build and melee combatant. Also the multiple ways to handle enemies provides variety: kicking, impaling, setting on fire, stunning, shooting, hacking, throwing, charming, etc… It's a lot of fun. I can see additional playthroughs (stealth/critical, or archery specialist, and some other combo variations with certain spells). The gameplay is noticeably lacking in much that is tedious (except for maybe too many zombies). This make replayability high for me. Also, few to no respawns makes me really happy.

I did have some trouble triggering the power attacks, but that was probably operator error. Playing as a melee build, I am starting to get the hang of it.

For an action/RPG, though simplistic in the RPG aspects, I think this a great game.
