Well, that first part about change he actually beats around the bush. You have very little influence in the world, very limited interactions with the NPCs, little consequences and so on.
I have no clue what their game designers were doing really. Sitting on their asses complaining about their tools, and artists and programmers, and the deadline.
but i'll give it a try. It might be the other way from Skyrim. You get to know its bad parts from the start, and what follows can only be good.
PS: I like the animations, reminds me of Bloodlines.
