I think many people wants clarified information about certain aspects of the game (gameplay, setting, etc) at the very beginning. “We haven’t decided yet” isn’t a phrase that seems popular among potential pledgers.
If I remember correctly, Project Eternity also started without any real info other than "we're the dudes that made Planescape Torment, we're going to make a game, give us your money"
