Wanting to close the gates is not that odd. A lot of "completionists" have gone about closing all 60 gates in the game. I probably wouldn't do that myself, but I like closing them once in awhile. Like you said, they have excellent loot, and closing them adds to a sense of completion that is pretty rewarding.
