I'm German and I've had a credit card for a long time (Amex, then Visa and now Master Card). It costs a fee of €30 per year and there is a small 1.5% fee when using it for purchases outside of Germany (like when I buy from Steam).

I couldn't and wouldn't want to imagine a life w/o a credit card. It makes things so much more convenient (one click purchases from many places on the net).
I also like the added bonus of buying something now and paying up to a month later. My card gets billed around the 15th and I get my work salary between the 10th and 15th of each month. A credit card allows me more flexibility in handling my funds and purchases.
