If the partition lost it's NTFS information, there's not really much you can do. That sounds like the MBR was corrupted or lost. The last recovery app I used was "File Scavenger" and as long as you know the volume name, usually you can recover just about everything. I had a lot of broken files, but mostly it was good. Since you didn't have to recover anything, that's that, though.

Windows 8 is fortuitous for everyone making shoddy hardware, as they all apparently need scapegoats for their own failures. I just hope this drama doesn't hurt PC gaming too badly. I really like all this irritating technology.
