"core" gamers can mean both mid-core gamers (between the hardcore and the casual gamers) and hardcore gamers, although I think here it mean mid-core. They buy more games than casual, prefer more complex gameplay, but don't live for gaming. They just fit them into their schedule. It's a bit of a redefinition of mainstream, but without the casuals.

Everyone that visit the watch would fall into the core RPG gamers group.
