That would really be surprising indeed, if it happened. But the way the game seems to constantly be going back an forth to the server, I doubt it be that easy to pull off technically. Unless it was architecturally designed to accommodate this from the get-go. (from what I heard even the pirated version of D3 has to ping-pong with a virtual server app on the client) Plus it's DRM for them, as it is for SC2.

But it would be nice. And come to think of it, the console version does this. So, then the client code must've been written loosely coupled to the server, if they could release a console version that doesn't talk to a server. Maybe it's not that far-fetched after all.
