Borderlands is a perfect example of that. I was immensely disappointed by the loot in that game after it was advertised as having 100,000 (or whatever the number was) different guns. It sounds cool in theory, but in reality you're constantly swapping out guns where the only difference might something like a .10 upgrade to accuracy or a few more points of elemental damage.
It also kills any sense of excitement for me when I'm changing or upgrading weapons every few minutes. I like to be forced to work for decent loot rather than having it dropped by every enemy and finding it behind every rock.
