Literally translated, a demiurge is a working man, or craftsman. It's often used to describe the concept of a creator deity - see the Wikipedia link posted by Asbjoern.

When I worked on Asheron's Call, I dubbed the lost Empyrean golem-creation magic "demiurgy."
