Hmm. "Best game"? Probably not.

I'm a huge Gothic-fan, played the first part at least 10 times and the second, with or without add-on, 7 or 8 times. I loved the design, the gameplay, the story.
And the third part, in comparison to that, just feels stale. The design is extremely, well, Z-Brushed. Every monster looks overpolished. Just compare the lurkers from Gothic 2 with those from Gothic 3. They've gone from saurian to humanoid. And nobody knows why. The leveldesign, well, it's huge. But that's it. I don't know if the Piranhas thought it's funny to be permanently stray. The gameplay got worse, totally worse. In Gothic 1 and 2 there was a perfect ratio of dialogs and fights. In 3, dialogs were shortened, most people don't have anything to say and women were completely abandoned. (In Outcast at least they had a reason why there are no women.) So, you have to fight, fight, fight and kill. Ok, you can run away sometimes. Great. I really don't know why exploring a big, big world should be fun if every corner is just dangerous, filled with creatures which can kill you even if you're level 50. Perhaps I'm just missing some variety. And the story … well, the maincharacteres don't tell me a thing. I got to King Rhobar, I was very excited, wanted to listen to some of his great tales. "Go and speak to Xardas." was all he had to say. Yes, he mentioned that he know that I am a great hero and that I defeated the Sleeper, all by Innos. But that's it. Nothing new from him, nothing important, not even anything for the backstory. And this is something that goes for every single quest in Gothic 3, too - it's not really important. Bring me 10 furs, kill those goblins, escort that person.
