Gothic 3 - Demo released

I played it a bit. It crashed in the big fight right at the start, while someone was talking to me. I got a weird wheres the guru window. What's that ? Anyway I started again and succeeded through the fight. The game seems to run fairly smooth at medium setting -- although it doesnt look at all like the screenshots I've seen -- but I'll definitely need another gig of ram. I hate that they didnt keep the voice of G2's nameless hero. At least the music is excellent.

I liked Gothic 1 &2, but strangely not interested in 3. I think it's my natural self-protection feature which automatically dulls excitement for new titles that may be buggy as a month old corpse.

What a delightful analogy, huh?

I agree G3 has that great game feel, yet we all know the purposes and intentions of demo's....to give players a taste of the real thing.....but still, is this G3 demo capable of doing what is intended....will it turn players off as it fails to run with it's pc crunching demands or will their eye-balls pop-out like eggs on springs as they froth at the mouth in ecstatic gameplay delight?....we will see. :)

You shouldn't do that.

I find it odd that you react this way... The first two had bugs and they were a blast to play when you just ignored them...Yes, we all know. That was after they had been patched a few times in the process...

I for my part, cannot wait to see the end of this marvelous journey that the very respectfull PB crew have given us to experience in our lives.

Unfortunately, my pc is too crappy to run the game. :'(

I almost cry in woe because of the blasphemous words you spoke...

Forget the bugs. Please. Get over that. Listen to the gamers. Those who can indeed, find a way to play the game, dodging a bug here and there, patching it once, then twice, then maybe even a third time, well, the're having a treat.

You have one life to live. :D

Download the demo! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!!!!

Oh, and by the way, it's not delighfull at all...

Funnily enough the same sentiments here. Couldn't wait for G2 to come out back then, and now... G3 has been available for ages here, yet so far I refrained from buying it because of those horrendous reviews. Now I dled the demo and played a bit.
English language voice acting sounds a little goofy when compared to the original language Gothics 1 and 2, so I hope the original voice acting is better than this.
The demo runs fine (a bit choppy, but playable - I'm used to playing choppy games); after the average-looking intro (it was the same way with the olf Gothic games) and a few minutes of getting used to the controls (after roughly ten years I decided to return to left-handed mouse gaming) the old Gothic feeling returned, and I decided to get the game after all - the demo did its job :).

Hmm. "Best game"? Probably not.

I'm a huge Gothic-fan, played the first part at least 10 times and the second, with or without add-on, 7 or 8 times. I loved the design, the gameplay, the story.
And the third part, in comparison to that, just feels stale. The design is extremely, well, Z-Brushed. Every monster looks overpolished. Just compare the lurkers from Gothic 2 with those from Gothic 3. They've gone from saurian to humanoid. And nobody knows why. The leveldesign, well, it's huge. But that's it. I don't know if the Piranhas thought it's funny to be permanently stray. The gameplay got worse, totally worse. In Gothic 1 and 2 there was a perfect ratio of dialogs and fights. In 3, dialogs were shortened, most people don't have anything to say and women were completely abandoned. (In Outcast at least they had a reason why there are no women.) So, you have to fight, fight, fight and kill. Ok, you can run away sometimes. Great. I really don't know why exploring a big, big world should be fun if every corner is just dangerous, filled with creatures which can kill you even if you're level 50. Perhaps I'm just missing some variety. And the story ... well, the maincharacteres don't tell me a thing. I got to King Rhobar, I was very excited, wanted to listen to some of his great tales. "Go and speak to Xardas." was all he had to say. Yes, he mentioned that he know that I am a great hero and that I defeated the Sleeper, all by Innos. But that's it. Nothing new from him, nothing important, not even anything for the backstory. And this is something that goes for every single quest in Gothic 3, too - it's not really important. Bring me 10 furs, kill those goblins, escort that person.

I have played around with the demo a bit, and so far i like it. I am a big fan of the first two. But, i was concerned after reading some reviews. But, so far, i like the dmoe very much. The demo runs very smooth at max settings. I wonder if that is any indication on how the full version will run?

I found G1 and G2 to be more frustration than fun. So far, all of the reviews seem to support this trend for G3.

I respect the developers for keeping the challenge level of the previous games and not 'dumbing it down' like so many other rpg's in recent past.

Hi, I've downloaded the demo, but whenever I start the game I get to the PB logo and then I just CTD.
I first get a microsoft error report and then if I send or even when I don't send it, I just get back to my desktop.
Can someone help me please?

A little something about your system specs might help!!

I installed the Windows Installer and I already had the rest. So I tried running the game, but it still gives me that error.

Do you also mean that I have to buy a new graphics card to run the game?
Is there any other way of disabling the feature which uses the SM v1.4 so that I might be able to at least play the demo with low graphics?

Thank you.

I think your NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 is a pixel shader 1.3 graphic card and probably not compatible with Gothic 3.
