Best Buy and GameStop has announced their incentives to get people to pre-order this game.
If you pre-order it from GameStop, you'll get an N7 Valkaryia Rifle and a Defender Armour.
If you pre-order it from Best Buy you'll get an Argus Rifle:
The high-powered Argus rifle is an excellent close-range weapon, and its bursts of fire conserve ammunition during lengthy conflicts. Others across the galaxy are adopting the Argus as their standard rifle, for both its intimidation factor and suppression power.
More information.

FFS is there no end to this bs? Skyrim has been the only major AAA release lately which hasn't followed this idiotic trend. But then again did you honestly expect anything else from EA-Bioware…

i think bioware has nothing to do with this, EA is the publisher so they are the ones that take care of things like that.

In-game assset 'extras' have a huge affect on kids. As my own two boys are getting older, the marketing of in-game assets 'extras' are as real in their minds as an object in the real world.

I will probably spend years de-programming this out of their heads.

It's like the little plastic toy in the cereal box.

But really, why does anyone care one way or another about this? I remember getting a little item for pre ordering DA:O, and it was a nearly useless piece of crap. But who cares? It's just marketing. We're adults and can decide for ourselves.

Some people get worked up about the general concept of Day 1 DLC, as though it were additional content that should have been included in their copy of the game.

I'm with you, however, in the sense that whether some DLC item / pack / content is offered at release date or later, or even as some sort of pre-order incentive, doesn't really bother me.

For example, I pre-ordered DA2 via Steam and those who pre-ordered via Origin got some kind of Sebastian DLC content. Setting aside the other problems with the game, I had no interest in this Sebastian content. Certainly I wouldn't pay for it and I didn't mind that it was "Day One" or exclusive for Origin customers.

I certainly don't care at all about pre-order incentive weapon or armor packs, etc. If I like a game, I'm more interested in big expansions.

Based on what I've seen so far of the ME3 leaked beta, I'm not sure whether I will ever purchase this title. Perhaps much later when it goes on sale.

If I buy Mass Effect 3 it will be late, it wont be through Origin and it might be the last Bioware game for me. After playing Dead Space on iPhone I feel I am ready to give up EA entirely, the amount of ads in the game is insane for a purchased game and the direct offer to buy credits/nodes for actual cash in the store just ticked me off.

This is great news in my book. Do I give a darn about an extra rifle or clothing pack? Of course not! But it means that my content (the stuff I actually care about) won't be reduced because I don't want to preorder. That said, this is a 100% buy for me so I may end up preordering anyway.

I'll be totally waiting to read reviews on this one before I plunk down even 1 buck for it. So, no preorder for me, I did for ME1 and 2 but, lesson learned, Bioware needs to earn some faith back. And I ain't holding my breath on it!

I actually enjoyed ME2 quite a bit - more to the point, the loyalty stories moreso than the overall gameplay . You know you are getting a shooter with light RPG elements and that's what you get - in that sense, it's a more "honest" product than DA2.

I think Bioware/EA need to look up the word "incentive" in a dictionary.

Being over-powered from the beginning is 100% counterproductive to the sensation of growing in power as you go through the game.

So it's really a disincentive - and one of many.

You can issue Bioware as many passes as you like but I'm not letting them off the hook for anything anymore. They've been full steam ahead the wrong direction since Neverwinter Nights and that's not EA's fault. They aren't getting my money for any DLC because they aren't getting my money for Mass Effect 3 in the first place. I advise anyone who doesn't like getting low quality interactive cinema shoved down their throat and being told its an RPG to do the same. And I advise the rest of you to figure out what the hell is wrong with you. Do you not know that there's more porn than you could ever possibly watch on the internet for free, with better acting, more realistic romances and less deformed titties?

See? That's what I'm talking about right there. Not only do you think this is supposed to be a game, you somehow have deluded yourself into believing it's intended to be challenging. What's that all about?

Personally, I'd rather prefer incense instead of incentives … Simply smells better.

Well put.

I considered suggesting BW give bird icons for the desktop that say "Cheap" "Cheap" every few minutes or so... Alas the simplicity and multiple entendre content of your Zen-like suggestion puts mine to shame.

Best of luck to you in that.

God I hate this stupid shit. It just screws up game balance and you have people trying to get all the codes and items. They might even do what the Witcher 2 did and release a patch that gives you all the items eventually so you can steamroll through the game. On the bright side, maybe I won't pick up this game.

Why do you care what other people do?

The Mass Effect and the Witcher games are singleplayer games so what difference does it make to you?
