What I did for Spiderweb Games is to put the inventory button on the thumb button of my mouse. Really makes your life easier.

But the whole interface of the game could use some serious improvements.

Yea, I think the story telling and exploration aspects of spiderweb games are great, but I really think he needs to get a new engine where the graphics aren't so primitive looking. I'm not talking cutting edge either, but even the Eschalon series looks better in most respects than spiderweb games, especially the combat. And because combat is so much a part of these games, it is particularly glaring to see the ultra primitive animations and effects in the spiderweb games.

The RPG benchmark now.

Hoping Jeff puts a little more in the way of factions and multiple quest outcomes. A world that reacts to you a little more than the binary attack/adore.

If Avernum Escape from the Pit is anything to go by, there's too much content! Would be nice if some hours budget instead went into making the graphics and sound a little less 1987 (within limits).

Can't stand these games, personally - but one must admire his ability to create and especially to write. I mean that, because the fans are praising all his games for their stories/writing.

The rate at which he turns out new games that look so much alike - tells me he must be extremely gifted when it comes to storytelling and level design.

I'm going to try and have a decent crack at the first game over the next few weeks and see if it holds my attention like Escape from the Pit did. Should be interesting, as I really had fun with that game last year. Anyway, thanks for posting.

Escape from the Pit has been my favourite Spiderweb game so far. Wasn't crazy about Avadon - plot didn't grab me as much.

Agree his UI isn't pretty or very usable but is functional "enough". So I'll play Avadon 2 even if he doesn't improve the UI.

I assume this one will be linear like the first one?

I thought Avadon was a decent game, but I didn't like the linear exploration style; I much prefered the open world design of the previous games. I think the graphics are fine though.

I think his games are great. The graphics/ui are fine with me, I don't need him to change anything. Especially not at the cost of content. The problem I have with older graphics is heavy pixellation, but these graphics are sharp. They also remind me ( fondly) of my rpg boardgame period. Changing the avatar portrets was very welcome, though.

On a side note, and somewhat uncanny: I think our musketeer touches upon something very important. He can't stand the games, but still recognizes their quality (I may be stretching what he said too far). There is a lot of good music I don't like. For instance Eric Clapton and most jazz music. Same with books, movies and games. For instance Arcanum. It's a good game, but it didn't do anything for me. Then there are also low quality things that I for some reason like. Power metal (not that bad, but the formula can be very predictable, stereotypical and of the yet-another-album and me-too type). And that unmentionable Might and Magic game, for example. It had a lot of the qualities you'd expect from a bad game. But i had great fun playing it.

Pibbur who knows he's posted yet another reason, in addition to his socialism for dte to despise him, that he's tainted, and that he should feel ashamed. Sadly he isn't.

PS. Another thiNg i liKe wiTh mr. Vogel's games iS that they work very well on my iPad. TaiNted agaiN. *siGhs* DS.

According to some dudes on the forums who seem to have a clue it seems like it will be a linear game. I quote the global moderator "Randomizer" from the Avernum Forums:
Jeff has been shifting to a linear world because it's easier to balance the major quests to an average party level for each area. The older game remakes are still going to be open worlds with party death as the limiting factor on where you can go.

Exactly what I think about these graphics. Also the Avernum Talent Graphics looked unprofessional.
