Theatre of Tragedy - Aegis
The last cd before the band, as seemingly all good gothic metal acts do, went bust and "progressed" their sound to a form which pretty much pisses off (and on) and alienates their entire original fanbase. Another one bites the dust!
i heard this artist on my way home from class during my favourite radio program bat country:2086 on kdvs. it sounded remarkabley like a group i really love 'mankind liberation front' but don't really listen to industrial style electronica that often. but this was great and i had to find out who it was. listened to a few tracks and will probably be picking up the cd shortly. heres's his page and the link to cd baby where you can listen to all the tracks. the one i heard on the radio was 'i'm trying to impress you'. if you like industrial/goth/synthpop/electronica check it out. http://www.marknicholas.org/ http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/marknicholas
I love finding a new band with a sizable back catalog! Just ordered everything they have at Amazon. Well-produced beauty/beast gothic doom, I have found nirvana once again... at least temporarily.
Another public service fanboi announcement: Ether Aura has another song off the new cd up on their MySpace page. "Tell Me That I'm Nothing" just might be the best track off the cd. Rockin' but still melodic. Well worth a listen!
@Sammy- Draconian runs pretty contrary to my current mood, but I can see where that's right up your alley.
Is it dreampop, neo new wave, or electro disco revival? Who cares. Gotta love Ladytron. Whenever I hear this song, I always get a flashback of the Talk Talk video from back in the day (showing my age again) with the drummer flipping his ponytail back and forth to the beat as he pounds away. I don't think Talk Talk even used real drums on that album, but the visual just makes you feel like the tune is ROCKIN!
two good examples/favourites from their last full length full length album. the dreamy synthpop side and the humourous dancable synthpop side. they've been around since 1999 and their 3rd full length is coming out in the next few months or so. their following has gotten massive over the years because one of the 3 members has been the lead composer at harmonix studios for years and pumped out frequency, amplitude, guitar hero, etc. and thus a freezepop song is on everyone of those games...pure marketing genius. also i highly recommend his side project symbion project which is far superior to dj shadow in my opinion if you like that kind of music.
Freezepop comes up on the Vertigo station from time to time. Not bad, but a little too garage/punk to put above Ladytron in my book. Of course, I've beaten it to death that I usually prefer my music smooooooth, even when it's 120bpm. When I get on one of my 80's new wave revivals, I might switch that ranking, but overall I'm sticking with Ladytron.
speaking of 120bpm that is the name of this track which is taken off of 'symbion project's first album from 1998 'red'. it very simple but beautiful and i can't tell you how many time over the years i've fallen asleep to it... http://cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/symbionproject-10.m3u
When I was working nights for a couple months, Enya was my sleeping pill. I rarely made it more than half way thru the greatest hits cd. I think my recent Titania purchase could have served as an alternative.
I've been really digging in Miles Davis' masterpiece Bitches Brew once again ... I was watching bits and pieces of a special 'Miles Davis Story' documentary with my kids the other day while my wife was out and they were really enjoying the section on Bitches Brew, so we popped in the CD's ...
I have the boxed set 'Complete Bitches Brew Sessions' on my iPod, and that has been in constant play since the weekend, and it is one of those rare instances where the entirety of a focused box set is truly masterful. Nearly 5 hours of truly excellent stuff!
speaking of box sets the cure have a really good one 'join the dots:b-sides and rarities' which i bought my girlfriend a few years back. we got my dad for christmas the captain beefheart box set 'grow fins'. i haven't had a chance to listen to that one but even though i always made fun of my dad as a kid that he liked captain beefheart in the last handfull of years i've actually dug some of their songs quite a bit. but as for me and my 'cd collective' there's not a single box set i own...lots of special editions and other rare gems though.
