Risen 2 - Pre-Order DLC Bonus - "Treasure Island"

I *only* pre-order when there is a deal to be had. Saved $18 on KoA and $7 on Skyrim with pre-orders! =/

Smart move!

They now pre-compensate the pre-buyers for the game thats a pre-release of the bugfixed game the others will buy months later. :)

And they say people never learn ... tsss.

didn't we just have a public hanging of koa even though their handling of this is infinitely better than risen 2. At least with koa you can wait a month or so to make sure it's not a buggy mess and it lives up to it's promises before buying.

I definitely won't preorder, but it has nothing to do with dlc. With no jumping or swimming except for hot spots, qte's, no bows and wonky console camera. This game sounds more like gothic 4 than gothic 1-3.

I hope i'm wrong but risen 2 is starting to stink of da2 to me. All those warning signs I ignored thinking it couldn't be that bad it's bioware.

Are you talking about Risen 2 there? What gave you the idea that that jumping is only in hotspots? Also not sure how you could claim the camera is "wonky" when none of us have played it yet.

Oh come on, you know we can't hold games to the same standard here.

Yep, Moriendor has a very good point also. And with Patty (edit: and the bloody Pirate theme!) as a companion having a significant quest like that would be a nobrainer, wasted opportunity there…

Not seeing a Da2 here by no stretch of the imagination (and I was seeing Da2 months before release, the demo just confirmed it). The existence of DLC does not say anything for the quality of the game of course. I just dislike the whole practice and wish it never existed but in the end I can just ignore it and focus on the game…

Read a post here about only having jumping in hot spots. Also have seen several gameplay video and never saw them jump. So I assumed poster was correct. If that's not the case the I deserve any and all ridicule for not checking facts before posting.:)

As for the camera It seemed to zoom in and out and obscure your view when in tight spaces. Also not a big fan of the camera moving independently from my character. I prefer mouselook vs free camera in this type of game. Lots of games are going to this however. I assume dev's figure many people will be playing with controllers.

It's not a no buy but it's gone from a pre-order to a wait and see for me.

Petty ! Risen 2 is a must buy and will preorder, but really they should just give a small discount on the price instead of adding or subtracting parts of the game. This will just push people to turrent.

Perhaps you're getting jumping confused with climbing. It's been said that climbing is only in hotspots.

I've seen nothing that indicates the camera in Risen 2 is significantly different from their previous games.

I do hate the sneaky way of earning money. Makes me pissed. When iam pissed i dont buy.

Things like a preorder DLC should be IN the game from the start !!

I don't know. IIRC in the old days you often got a little trinket (special "cloth" edition of maps, or whatever) with some preoders. In the digital age, why not give a digital equivalent? It's just not something that gets me angry :meditate:

How is this a sneaky way of making money? The DLC is free and you don't pay extra to preorder.

Then it wouldn't be a preorder DLC:)
And what would be the incentive to preorder?
AFAIK preorder numbers are pretty important for the dev/publisher in determining how retailers/distributors will handle their game, advertising, number of units they want etc.

To me preorder bonuses seems to target the people that would buy it on day 1 anyway to get them to buy a few days or weeks earlier and in that way help the devs/publisher.

I generally have no problem with preorder bonuses aslong as I don't feel that the bonus is needed to make the game a whole and full experience.

One thing people should understand is that all of these developers have a point where they stop adding content to the game several months before release so that it can go through beta testing and bug fixing. They probably would keep making content for the game and then eventually release it. This was exclusive to expansions in the past but now that it is easier to distribute content they have more choices.

Who knows maybe they were not able to get to this storyline while making the game and so they started after going into beta. They could have just waited and put it into an expansion and no one would have complained but instead they decided to release it as dlc. I do think that the pricing on these dlc are too high since if you compare pricing on an expansion to a dlc based on content the expansion is a better value usually.

The times I get mad when it comes to dlc is when either the content was obviously originally part of the game or nowhere worth the price they put on it. They announced there was going to be 6 factions at least over 4 months ago and it seemed like they were well established at the time so it looks like they just cut part of the content and put it as dlc. I wouldn't even be surprised if the code just unlocks the in-game content rather then downloading the new content.

By the time you get towards the end of the game another small island won't matter anyway!
Deus EX:HR DLC I skipped for the same reason - had my fill in the main game.

Of course should you live in Europe you can safely pre-order on the basis that it comes out 3 days later than in the US, this gives you time to read the reviews and cancel if desired.

No idea why we have to wait 3 days extra over here, but hey it has it's advantages to! ;)

I can solve that for you. Country's have different new release days. I'm not kidding. I used to set up the new merchandise and everything was either Wednesday or Friday.

Aha got you, well it's always a little annoying having to wait those few extra days, but like I say should Risen 2 end up getting dreadful reviews (which I doubt) then it'll be a quick cancellation!

Sorry but this will be a reason for me to wait for the Gold or GOTY or whatever version. Risen 2 is pretty much the only game on my 2012 radar but I'm too busy with Unfettered to care if I play it on release date or not, so I'll just wait. I loved Risen but I'm tired of this DLC nonsense. I'll just wait a year and buy the gold version for half price with all the content included.

Bad. Very bad.

Now my arm is being twisted into pre-ordering something which I don't know I will want with the risk being that I will have wasted my $50 (or however much). The risk of not pre-ordering is that if I do enjoy the game then a) I would be without fun and meaningful content or b) I would be out an additional $10 or however much it costs after release.

So now I'm being forced to gamble either way. If I want to gamble I will go to a casino. I don't want to gamble.

It's like a sleazy salesperson pressuring me into making a hasty decision. Bad. Very bad.
