I normally don't quote HP here but since it's a non-political subject:
"Top state and city law enforcement officials on Thursday will announce an expansive investigation into the failure of Apple and other smartphone manufacturers to adopt measures that may limit a wave of thefts targeting their products"

Now, could it possibly be that smartphone producers are dragging their feet to install "kill switch" in their devices because of $30 billion per year they earn in US from replacing lost/stolen phones? Nah…. they can' be that devious…. can they?

The killswitch tech is desperately needed and there has to be "rational" reasons to develop it.
Not for smartphones though. "Soon" gadgets and perhaps more stuff will be locked by DNA, but the killswitch technology will still be applicable on humans.

Nazi's dream.

Here, it is common for robbers to steal/rob cell phones - and sell them in tiny second-hand shops for a bit of money.

The problem is not the sealing / robbery alone - it's also that some shops just buy up stuff without asking any questions.
