The busy as a bee community team released their new Unofficial Gothic 3 Community Patch today. v1.5.2's fix list is short - but in this case size does not matter:
Changes for Community Patch 1.5.2:
  • Deactivation of the copy protection
The compatiblity list is also worth a look:
Compatible language versions:
German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Chinese (simple), Chinese (traditional), Universe Edition
This means CP 1.5.2 is compatible to the Gothic Universe bundle!

JoWooD has greenlit the deactivation of the copy protection for this one and all later Community Patches to make the work of the community team easier. Now all compatility issues caused by Community Patches, copy protection or a mix of both should be a thing of the past.
Kudos to JoWooD and the community team!
More information.

I've seen Gothic 3 in stores for about €9,99 , with all these patches (official and community made) is it worth the try or are there still some annoying bugs?

It´s still a better than average action-RPG. Of course you should buy it for a few bucks if you liked the older games and if you have a fast PC.

Ok, wth did this publisher actually hire someone, who is capable of making intelligent derisions or was this one outsourced?

It's still worth $20. Yeah, it has flaws, but it's easily $20 worth of entertainment.

A little surprising Jowood gave the ok to disable their copyprotection. Don't normally see companies do that.

I guess they've (hopefully) at last seen the disaster with Gothic 3.

The publisher and the developer had a falling out that left the game in the lurch.

Uh, and I just read "the publisher and the destroyer ..."

Quite possible that at this point, given the state of things on Gothic 3 (and sales most likely) and for the sake of the next Gothic game they decided to throw a bone to the community. Try to make up a bit for the bad blood, its not like they'll really lose any important sales at this point in time and it'll just make the Gothic community a bit happier. I think anyway.

Well thing is they seemed to have broken compatibility with there holiday release Gothic Universe and were getting some bad press and are trying to prevent a bad holiday sales.

This all came about in a really unusual way, it seems they realized their bad decision last month and instead of their usual deny (lose money) and ignore (lose fans), they had this brilliant idea where they would outsource the decision to china. They found an ancient spirit of The Little Old Woman Fortune Teller(TLOWFT), though they puzzled at the goatee, mustache and the handrolled toothpick. She spoke in a deep an haunting voice,"Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow" and it all became clear even though it was quite smoky in there.

An(other) updated CP 1.5.2 file has been uploaded. Download the patch again if you think your Gothic 3 doesn´t behave like it should.

I think you were in there too judging by the bizzarishness of that post. ;)
