China says no to WoW as they ban NetEase from taking any money from subscribers. In China's General Administration of Press and Publications' convoluted opinion NetEase is breaking the law by accepting subscriptions. Something to do with 'Outlawing foreign investment'. Yet it seems that China's own government isn't too clear on the situation either because China's Ministry of Culture said that GAPP went too far.

Life is just too funny sometimes. China wants to make money, but doesn't at the same time. I just love that silly country.

I also heard about that, chinese gouverment can do anything they want. As far as earning money.... american companies earning money ( Blizzard/Activision in the end ) on the other hand is something that they really do not like.

Just wait for WOWC released by Chizzard.

Isn't it just a fun little country? :)

Seriously though, this is as close to China as I'm willing to get. Some foreigners love it in Shanghai, but personally I wouldn't go there if my life depended on it.

Taiwan and China are like two sides to the same coin. On one side you have freedom and basic human rights and on the other you have China :lol:

China is great, if you are rich and on good foot with the gouverment and live in a rich part.

China is shit, if you are poor live in a small village and someone decides to open a lead factory to poison your lake with drinking water and fish.

Well, China isn't exactly a democracy but I'm not sure why WoW should be a problem. If I'd guess it would probably one (or more) of these:
* Monitoring of chat
* Money
* Gaming addiction
* Sever impact on workforce productivity :)

I know this is old thread… And you may spit all way you want - China has one of the strongest world economies.
Forget the prejudices and comunism thing and start learning something from real books and not your local politicians - there is no comunism country - China is in socialism.

And if a country with strong economy bans WoW subscription thing, then perhaps you shoould ask why is such country economically strong unlike others.
Some ppl say here that CDprojekt with The Witcher is doing milking. I say that WoW's business is actual milking and never played WoW nor ever will.

If I ever leave my country, then my destination will be - China. At least they don't allow turning their nation into idiots who should pay monthly for already payed game. And no, I don't respect any of you WoW players. For the money you thrown into Blizzard because of your addiction you could have bought all RPGs ever made and help all those small studios with great games you never heard about.

Freedom is funny like that. It "allows" you to be free to choose what you want.

Just in case you're curious, I live in Taiwan. I have for the past eight years now and all of my contempt for China comes from my own personal experience and not from any politician's rhetoric or prejudice. Actually, before I came to Taiwan I was fond of China. The history and culture of that country was intriguing. However, the more I learned about the China of today the more I want nothing to do with it.

I hope you do get to go to China one day. I have had many friends who just absolutely love Shanghai. I think they're nuts, but I guess if you have money or certain skills, that are useful, then China is a great place to be. I just don't like how they treat their citizens. Taiwan has it's problems, but it's nothing compared to China.

Let me relate to you a little story about my girlfriend's parents. They went to China. Not to the major cities, but the rural areas. They wanted to take advantage of the progress that China and Taiwan have been making towards peaceful relations. Well everything is going ok until one day a Chinese man asks them where they are from. They reply, "Taiwan." He then goes on to say how he is looking forward to coming over here and killing everyone here. Of course this shook them quite a bit and even though this was an extreme case, it was about par-for-course with the Chinese attitude towards Taiwanese.

That is just one of the many reasons I despise everything to do with today's China. I have not even gotten started with how they China treats it's rural citizens and the 'supposed' freedom of the average Chinese citizen.

If you say Taiwan, the most common reply you'd probably get is the in brain programmed "Taiwan is part of China"

China is in socialism.

China is a capitalism country. Not communism nor socialism.

Whatever you all say. :D
Everyone has opinion, I do respect yours.
But it's nice to find out that I'm not the only cretin on whole planet who despises Blizzard's (and some others) game addiction abuse and who believes that WoWlike subscribing business should be banned everywhere.

China is in socialism.

China is a country that pretends to be socialist, but in the end is forced to use capitalism for nearly all facets of its economy.

As for people who shout that China's the path of the future : Let's see how its economic status survives the near future, after its ridiculous banking system collapses.

The China capitalism phase is a public and deliberate part of the China communism global plan. In this plan the capitalism phase is to get the lead economically. This phase is planned to last quite long but not sure how long, something like 50 years or more. After this phase it is planned to come back to communism.

China pretend to have social protection, social rights and more by pure hypocrisy to manipulate people, but well don't be wrong, USA use as much hypocrisy, but they are more smart to do it. Pretending want the good of all people of any democratic country but in fact target only the benefit of USA itself. Nothing new to the sun and Obama doesn't make it different it's just more smartly done.
