I think this is the thread where we discussed this previously. I remember being surprised with the 3 year sentence. Quietly dropping it to 1 year when the world stops paying attention seems to be the best solution for the Iraqi government.

I'm actually supprised they droped it - on balance it might work out quite a good deal for him - I doubt he'll want for job offers and opportunities when he gets out.

It's too bad PJ's out for a few days--I'd love to ding him yet again for another wild success of UN-led "containment" via sanctions and political isolation.
