The Totally NEW Team Corwin Thread

With the skill tax and going TWF FvS, Drow actually are a decent choice for that particular build. I've considered a similar build in the past, as much to make use out of Drow as anything else, but I never have done it. My builds were on the pre-NGE enhancements so I'd have to redo the whole thing.
My current "dart board plan" skips TWF in order to get better heal/buff abilities, which is admittedly dumb. It's another of my attempts at the "healbot that doesn't have to stand around" concept. I think I need to break out of my self-imposed box and go with a "pointy stick swinger that happens to be good at healing" concept (which is actually the intent for Klubbir as well) , but my brain just isn't cooperating. There's part of me that just wants to say screw it and recycle my Botdu build and be done with it, but that's a lazy copout.

The problem is s&b dps sucks. So if you're going to be doing weak dps, you may as well dump STR and pump WIS, and at least if Implosion is ever fixed, you can land that.

Even going full out melee, you shouldn't neglet healing in the least, especially since Warpriest is rather lack luster compared to AOV, even for a melee.

My old Drow build took two levels of monk for feats and evasion, theoretically you could push the stance feats in, but I don't know how. That's 6 feats, out of 9, and only 1 is covered as a Monk-specific feat. I'll have to do some numbers later, see what I can come up with.

Wouldii's already got vampiric fury shortswords (Lordsmarch) waiting, which is what got me looking at drow. (Rhogu has a pair of envenomed blades waiting and I've got the stuff to make another pair of vampiric furys, so he might go drow for his assassin build as well) IIRC, I ended up burning quite a few points in the drow tree to max out the shortsword bonus, which meant I didn't have as many points to "waste" among the FvS trees.

I'm not real happy with splashes on the healer classes since you're always behind the curve on what's supposed to be your primary function. That said, the 18/2 FvS/monk build seems to have a lot of potential.

I wasn't happy with the splash either. Especially on the FvS, you're looking at being behind three levels on getting new spell levels vs a pure cleric. You won't get Mass Heal until 20.

In the end, pure class would be down 2 feats, but in reality you are only missing one; only the first TWF feat can be taken as a Monk Martial Arts feat. The second feat just kinda sits there, for more marginal-use feats. Though now the monk splash can offer other, greater, benefits like +4 CON or STR from the stances, 10% offhand chance, 1d6SA damage, and more. It just won't come into it's own until level 24 or so.

There's a good short sword found out in 3 Barrel, but they are BTC on equip. Also a pain because the rare that drops them is the Tiefling Assassin, and is far into the explorer area. Envenomed Blades are easy to farm out.

I'm not sure I would put anything into the racial at all. While the damage bonuses would help, I'd want to hit too much into the FvS trees to be able to afford it.

*Edit* There is apparently another hotfix up.

Thoughts? Since I don't plan on doing any offensive casting to speak of, I ended up skipping the AoV tree completely with this attempt and dumping those points into drow and monk trees. The only thing I was unhappy with is lacking quicken. Each time I was picking a feat, there always seemed to be something more important and suddenly I was up to level 20.

On a different note, the hotfix doesn't appear to cover the AA capstone issue and Reywind may not be able to make it this Friday, or could be quite late. He'll update his status as soon as he can.

I wouldn't consider Weapon Focus really necessary for, well, anything. Unless it's a prereq somewhere in Warpriest. Ditto for Toughness these days, at cap it's a mere 30hp. Weapon Finesse isn't needed since Ninja Spy 's first core ability is basically Weapon Finesse for Short Swords, as well as remaining centered while using them. Unfortunately, you'd need to dump level 9 spells completely to get your DEX to damage with the second core ability.

You should be able to pick up IC:p at 12, GTWF at 15. That leaves Quicken at 18. Alternately, Quicken at 3, Adept of Forms at 6, ITWF at 9, IC:p at 12, GTWF at 15. That leaves Master of Forms at 18, GM of Forms at 21. Dodge can be taken as a Monk bonus feat, if you want it on your second Monk level, IIRC.

Since you don't plan on doing any offensive casting to speak of, why did you pump WIS? On a Favored soul, WIS affects DCs, but CHA spell points and is needed at a minimum of 19 to make sure you can cast all spell levels.

I can't read the enhancements you posted. They are all yellow.

I thought weapon focus was a prereq for improved critical, but I'll double check that.

That's a little different from how I read it. The text was "use shortswords while centered". In other words, the weapon won't screw you up if you're already centered. Since I intend to wear armor of some sort, I won't be centered, right? Thus, that enhancement actually gives me nothing (other than a stepping stone to other stuff on the tree). I actually thought I was golden for exactly what you point out, but after that closer read, I scrapped what I had in order to put finesse back in. If I'm off-base, please speak up because I'd love to get that feat slot back.

Both of the feats I took at 3 are eligible for the monk bonus feat slot. Remember, I went monk/FvS/monk/Fvsx17 in order to get cure light wounds a little sooner.

Honestly, I had 4 points left, DEX and CON were going to take 3 just to get odd. I got to thinking some of the monk stuff would be helped with better WIS so I dropped a couple points in there and then had no idea what to do with the last 2 so I just said screw it and dropped them in WIS as well. Not exactly a well-considered plan… ;)

edit- the enhancements probably don't work right. I remember seeing lots of bug entries for the planner related to the warpriest tree. I'll probably have to clean up a few things there, but the general approach probably won't change much.

edit3- using the wiki as the guide, here's the summary of enhancements, which isn't quite the same as the planner build (the only one I was forced to take was acrobat1 and 2 in ninja spy to get to tier 2)

Drow: Core 1-4 (SR, DEX, SR, CHR); weapon tier 1-4; ambidex 3 ranks
Ninja Spy: Core 1; sneak attack tier 1-2; acrobat 2 ranks; subtle 3 ranks
Shintao: Core 1; deft strikes 3 ranks; iron skin 3 ranks
Warpriest: Core 1-5; toughness 3 ranks; sacred touch 3 ranks; weapon tier 1-5; wall of steel 3 ranks; inflame 3 ranks; inflame-saves 3 ranks; inflame-energy 2 ranks; CHR; CHR; divine power

edit 4- so assuming I skip armor and run around in a dress (aka stay centered), I re-did the feats. I probably won't bother putting this in the planner since the work's already done. Feats, in order:
toughness, 2WF / combat casting, dodge / empower healing / imp2WF / imp crit pierce / quicken / gr2WF

I've run the Watch in dark since Arhu created it. I tend to forget there's a light background option.

Yesterday we did a semi guild run on VON 5-6. Jm, Cm, Aletys, Azraelck and I were running in a RPG Watch led PUG. It was a success and we got decent XP and Jm got the Kundarak warding bracers raid loot.

We didn't run on our Friday toons so we will for sure do that once we get to level 12-13. The raid is very fun if it's led well. You can get a lot of very nice loot from that raid so we can probably do it more times.

When we get into the desert and do the flagging quests we should also attempt the Against the Demon queen raid. There are a lot of nice items there too that could drop even though I've never seen the best loot drop (Torc of Prince Raiyum for example).

If we do the raids slightly above level we can run on hard and not break the bravery bonus streak. That is probably smart so you all learn the raid while it's not too difficult to complete.

The first guild raid on our list shoud be the Tempest spine. If we do it slightly above level on hard we can easily short man it. The raid is level 10 so if we do it at 13 we will be fine.

I was under the impression that was our plan all along. I've certainly been setting "the book" based on us hitting the raids this time thru, but not running them at level.
