These guys sure know how to muddy the waters with different versions. TGC sent us this PR, announcing a new version of Hinterland for Europe subtitled A New Kingdom:
TGC announces launch of special edition of Hinterland, developed by Tilted Mill, across Europe

Hinterland – A new kingdom hits stores this spring with thrilling fights, versatile city-building and well thought-out management gameplay.

Berlin, 8th of April 2010 Fans of strategy games and management simulations will have fond memories of Tilted Mill thanks to their successful Caesar™ franchise and the critically acclaimed Sim City Societies™. The latest masterpiece - Hinterland – A new kingdom - from this independent game studio will be released by TGC – The Games Company as an enhanced and exclusive special edition for Europe. The multilingual special edition of Hinterland – A new kingdom will feature additional game content, exclusive concept art and the official soundtrack, while keeping the original, addictive gameplay, set in a graphically rich and beautifully designed game world.

Why would they only release this in Europe?

Why would they only release this in Europe?

TGC doesn't have the capabilities to publish worldwide, and might be the only available publisher.

Because it's already released online for everywhere else ???

It's available digitally everywhere, including Europe. Looks like this version is just an update on localization and "special edition"-age.

TGC seems to be casting about to expand, but they don't seem to be very selective in titles. Picking up Afterfall is a bit doubtful considering its past, and Hinterland…errrr…is just not very good.

I assume they just chose it because of the German background of games featuring economy decisions. Like The Settlers, for example, the Anno series etc. . Germany has always had quite a strong base of these "economy games".
