Default Did you trade in your old gas guzzler? Think hard!!

Just running through this morning for a quick post—looks like Cash for Clunkers made it through the sausage grinder without serious mishap:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/25898.html

Inexplicably [/sarcasm], only seven Republicans voted for it, and four Dems opposed it as well, including Leahy and McCaskill, which is kind of surprising..

We do occasionally slip into stupid partisanship. Hard to believe, I know…

Only quasi-legit excuse I can come up with is if, by blocking any program that draws stimulus money, they're going to keep that money in the treasury, effectively vetoing the stimulus. Kind of a tricky strategy, I suppose. Realistically, with the spending already approved, that money *will* get flushed somewhere, so that tactic would be doomed before it ever got off the ground, but it's about the best explanation I can come up with.

Or it could be about just saying no to the Kenyan. What were once vices are now habits and all that… I don't get McCaskill and Leahy at all, though, so at least your tortuous reasoning is some kind of explanation. I think we're going to see a lot of 60-38 type votes from now on, with the usual cast of suspects just alternating a bit as they make adjustments to the state by state flow of pork and influence peddling.

The change we need is transparency. Errr, you didn't really expect them to keep that promise, didja?

LOL! Transparency? Since I was paying attention, I understood that this program was also about stimulus.

Transparency in government, as in, not hiding numbers that might make Barack look bad. That's one of the many things y'all were promised during the campaign, if you remember.

I don't see any bad numbers being hidden. I see all good. Huge increases in car sales with an overall drop in gas consumption.

You know, if they were being hidden I'm sure they wouldn't exactly flaunt that fact around. You know, film themselves destroying papers papers with informative text explaining what they're doing which they then put up on youtube, they wouldn't do that if they're hiding bad numbers.

I think many folks hoped that with Obama coming in some of the Democrats would stop being such tax & spend a$$hats and that the Republicans would make some attempt at doing something positive for the country … in other words, they were all sniffing glue expecting dogs to meow.
