Issues with new laptop
November 30th, 2011, 03:07
I bought a new laptop a few days ago, an Asus G53S, and while installing some of my older games ran into a major graphical issue.
Here are some pictures from The Punisher pc game that show the problem;

That weird discolouration on the walls
I have the same problem with Dawn of War and its expansions, especially in the opening cutscene and with the units in army painter. And now it's gotten to the point where I can't play a game without seeing what may or may not be that glitch. Does that patch of darkness between Fisher's shoulderblades in Conviction when he's running through an area not directly exposed to light, or that suspiciously dark bruise on Galliard's cheek as I interrogate him mean that the game's slowly being corrupted?
I had an issue like this on my old laptop, but that wasn't nearly as bad and probably only came about due to overheating, but this model is specially built not to overheat. This problem is driving me nuts since I'm more than a little obsessive over little glitches and bugs.
Does anyone know what the problem might be? I would really appreciate any help.

I would start with a graphics driver update. Checking the AA settings also makes sense.

The NVidia drivers are up to date and I tried force turning on antialiasing with the NVid control panel. No luck.

No, I don't think I did. DirectX 9c, I assume?
Any particular location I should install it too?

Yes, DirectX 9c. Just use the standard installer. It will automatically update all needed files. MS silently updated 9c dozens of times.
