I think you're referring to Mehrunes Dagon's Deadlands, which was the plane of Oblivion filled with lava, etc., were the Oblivion gates send you. From what I've read about it, it seemed to be faithful to the lore.

Nah I meant the places that some of the Daedra lords (via their statues) who were scattered across the map sent you to do some quests for them.
