Wizardry Online "Permadeath"

Are the rumors (actually, a post over on PC Gamer) I hear true? Is Wizardry's perma-death feature really just a % chance you will die permanently that that % can be made lower by paying real life money??

In DDO there do exist so-called "Permadeath-Guilds", they use the rule that if a character is dead = is perma-dead.

Personally I think it's a foolish concept. Not only does it end with a lot of wasted time and effort, but I've been in entire party wipes many times- especially when first running a tough quest and that means you either play 'safely' avoiding any real challenge, or you end up re=playing the same low level quests over and over with new toons and miss out on much of the higher level content. There are some quests in DDO where at least one person gets killed EVERY time I've run it; the 'swim' in Crucible springs to mind. Death is simply a part of completing some quests and should be seen that way.
