For $1000, I highly recommend Lenovo Y580

I considered the Y580, but I just wanted a more powerful graphics card to "future proof" the laptop a bit more.
I also considered the very nice Lenovo Y500 with dual 650m graphics cards in SLI. Very nice setup for $1050, but it didn't come with a blu-ray or DVD drive, and I still wanted more power.
Lenovo does make some nice laptops though. I would recommend them to someone on a budget for sure.

Just got my Alienware M17X R4, and holy hell Batman, what a gorgeous piece of technology!! I'm afraid to use it because it's so darn nice and shiny, haha. Gorgeous machine though. When you turn it on it's like a light show with all the customizable lighting. And it booted from off to desktop in about 10 seconds. Very impressive. Seems like that SSD makes a huge difference.
First test, fully modded Morrowind Overhaul, while I download LOTRO in the background. Can't wait to put this baby to the test
